Jose Oquendo posted:Gilbert's podcast has been using the same Uber copy. Must be a Sideshow thing . On the plus side at least they aren't putting ads for other podcasts in theirs yet. Having to sit through an endless parade of cringeworthy ironic Hollywood 30-somethings lazily trying to entice you into listening to yet another aimless pop-culture podcast before getting dropped from the Maximum Fun network a month later is the worst part of listening to My Brother My Brother And Me every week.

Yeah normally I enjoy the WHM ads but the Uber ads are kinda stilted, I hope they go with another advertiser soon. At least they're all right at the front of the episode so I can zone out during them and not risk missing the show!

It's a shame too, because MBMBAM is like the gold standard in having ads that are as good as the regular content and also usually taking the piss out of whoever's sponsoring them. Like their sponsorship with a hosting site leading to them buying teengoogle.com, or finding out that erotic fanfiction of The Giving Tree exists, or an adult comics website making a porn comic starring them, or the entire ExtremeRestraints.com saga where they were able to see everything their listeners were buying with their discount codes.

Yeah I always skip the Uber ads, partly because they're so drat long and partly because Uber as a company is skeevy as hell. But I don't begrudge the guys doing them, they have to pay the bills somehow.

I have a soft spot in my heart for the Stallone Judge Dredd movie. It's a garbage movie, but I saw it in the theaters, and it's the only time I ever laughed at an audience heckle. Early in the film, when Dredd is in front of the tribunal or whatever, he takes his helmet off in a close up. The guy in front of me yelled "what the gently caress wrong with that nigga head!?". Everyone laughed, and that was the last time a packed theater had any kind of emotional involvement with that piece of poo poo.

It's not the ads themselves that bother me, but the interjections that elongate the ads that bother me. You need to read ad copy, fine, I'll zone out while you do it. But if someone goes "Whaaaaaaaaaaaat?" followed by everyone giggling for ten seconds every other line of said copy, it gets annoying. Everyone kvetches about how Sheer does HDTGM ads, but at least it's just him reading copy he recorded earlier by himself.

In the era before podcasting I used to listen to some live streaming radio station and they had a fairly large amount of ads between and in shows, but I don't think any of them actually had the on-air talent advertising things. Along that line though, I remember how they'd sometimes interrupt a commercial because "something was going on during the live show and holy poo poo we need to get back on the air right now" and other times they'd go, "We need to play about 10 commercials in a row right now because we've missed the last two breaks."

I don't mind ads, power to the guys for getting paid, but I hate the style of the Uber ad where they read off a script "I use it all the time, I love it, and what's great is you're your own boss, etc". It just puts a bad taste in my mouth since presumably the conversational tone is supposed to make it feel genuine but they're clearly reading off a script. The stuff where they talk about the product and make side-jokes etc is fine.

I don't mind most of the previous ads, but the Uber ads were just too much for me and I've been skipping them, not to mention that Uber doesn't operate where I live and they're kind of skeevy. I do wish they had the Audible sponsorship again, just because I loved how they tried to find an audiobook that relates to the movie in the episode.

Everytime I hear the Uber ads I just want to sign up with the promo code HATE. They are the first ads on the show I've outright disliked, the old audible stuff was amusing and the Harry's razors were pretty short and they dropped enough quips in to keep them entertaining.

I wasn't listening back when they were actively doing the Audible ads, but they're a lot more fun to listen to than the ones since they joined Sideshow. They're basically just five minutes of riffing around some Audible bullet points, rather than reading off a script for some skeevy companies, and I usually listen to them when I go back into the archive.

When I saw trailers for Eight Crazy Nights, I always assumed it was about family coming over for Hannukah. Instead of the trials and travails of Adam Sandler's self-insert hanging out with a hideous troll man.
