The director of the anime, Shingo Natsume, worked as a key animator on a ton of episodes of Gurren Lagann. Just cause Gurren Lagann was produced at Gainax doesn't mean the shows can't share staff, people move between studios a lot over the years.

Tengames posted:Its Dragonball Z taken to its logical extreme. It has suspense not in the form of whether or not the main character will beat the villian, because yeah of course goku/saitama will. The suspense is in the form of all those other guys who you know won't and how well they'll stand up to the villian(and in some ways, how well the villians can stand up to saitama) I agree with that last point, except instead of Genos it's really about any S-class tier fighter; take out Saitama from the setting, focus on one of those power players, and you've got yourself a textbook example of a Shounen lead protagonist. Each of them 'level up' or reveal a new ability/technique from each confrontation, they learn from their mistakes, grow in their character development, etc. It's just that Saitama is the star of the show, so they all become a strong supporting cast role. I feel that, because ONE doesn't take the world of One Punch nearly as seriously with his world building ecology as he does with Mob Psycho, he can play with the powers/characters without any pre-established narrative elements getting in the way that a regular Shounen would without breaking it's setting immersion. It's a lot of freedom for a writer to flex his muscles and see what kind of crazy stuff he can frisbee into the plot, I love it. White Light fucked around with this message at 20:06 on Dec 25, 2015 |

You also never have to worry about power creep, because no matter how powerful anyone gets they're always < Saitama.

Watched the first half of the episode again. It really is amazing - perfect capstone for a nigh-perfect adaptation. This is one giant action scene where you really could go through it frame by frame and keep finding new things. It's certainly a different beast from the Murata comic - after all, you can't really do double-page spreads -, but what they did with motion was on par. People have written a lot already on how it's basically a "heroic" struggle for Boros throughout, with music + edits that reflect it. I love it. Special credit goes to the moon scene - I really liked how they muted the whole thing and removed Saitama's narration from the comic; it makes the whole thing even more insane, especially after he's SUDDENLY on the moon. Really liked the muffled sound of Saitama's jump back. AND I also discovered the one thing that irks me to no end. Uuuuuh... two things, actually. The first: when the big ship starts listing from Saitama's impact. Looks pretty bad, now that I've seen it again, but whatevs. And here's the main thing! Saitama jumps back, Boros has his moment, goes "This man makes me want to go all out!", and runs towards him. And... it's just this normal pitter-patter of feet, like it's just a normal barfoot guy running. It's a towering energy Super Sayan giant from space, people, give it more impact! Aaaaaaaargh That was my opinion of the final action scene of One Punch Man

I think the foot sound of him running was a callback to the dream where Saitama was also running barefooted. It's probably the exact same sound effect too.

It was a lot of the same key animators from Space Dandy. The Director just called a bunch of friends and heavy hitters and got them in on this project. ANN had an article some time back about it all.

Yeah, it's easy to forget that animators are artists too and it's not just about the studio making the show, it's also about the people the studio brings in to work on the project.

The new OVA was really good. I found it on accident today and didn't even know it was coming out. 12 minutes is the perfect length because it avoided all the flaws the first one had.

Someone needs to make AV .gifs of Genos playing the taiko drum and Sonic's air guitar (w/ Mumen Rider) from the OVA ED.

The best thing is WebM's usually work out smaller than gifs despite literally all advantages. But yes, forum softwares need to get with the times and allow embedding for WebM, just force mute in there.

60 fps, 2048x2048 size, full colour pallet, audio support, plus a nice scroll bar if you wanna skip a bit or go back a bit, and upto 10 times smaller file size. Gif really needs to die.
