I was being glib but there is a sense among white people that things are better for minorities (read: black people) than they used to be, but in terms of access to social services, incarceration, poverty, etc. black people aren't doing that much better than they were in the 1950s, and people need to remember we have a long, long way to go.

I'm curious when one of these will end with the crowd attacking the police while they're manhandling a local. It's happened before and it's bound to happen again. And once the seal is broken, I'd imagine there will be good chance of it spreading to similar neighborhoods around the country (assuming the police don't just bomb the neighborhood like they did in Philly).

The state legislature failed to pass a $15 minimum wage using the excuse that the rural parts of the state can't handle it. There's currently an initiative in the works to raise the state minimum to $13.50 over 4 years that also makes sick leave mandatory.

Which is more than can be said about DeBlasio, who seems to be much more chummy with the NYPD after they turned their backs on him and he caved rather than fire and replace a bunch of petulant racist children with guns. If DeBlasio doesn't get blown away in his reelection I'll be surprised. He seems like he's compromised or just not given a gently caress compared to how he campaigned. Arresting a postal worker while on duty and without cause then hitting another loving vehicle while your prisoner isn't belted in should land all those plainclothes assholes in gen pop at Rikers but nothing's going to happen to them aside from desk duty unless the Feds can and do decide to go after them, and hopefully they do.

Which is annoying but not unreasonable - the cost of living in NYC is completely out of whack with the rest of the state. One thing worth pointing out is that a $15 minimum in NYC still affects a lot of people in the rest of NY, since they will commute into NYC, yes including for low wage jobs that would be affected. As well as people who commute in from North Jersey and a few people from Connecticut. Inferior Third Season posted:Thanks to mostly suburbanite white anti-vaxxers, perhaps not for long! Outbreak other than smallpox, but equal in scale, could happen though due to a particularly mean disease finding new territory to gain ground.

Notably they arrested him solely for "resisting arrest," which is just some classic hindsight bullshit.
