Well I guess paying more once for a quality camera is better than buying cheap ones over and over and over and over and over and over again.

ltr posted:Hope someone can help me out here. I used to frequent this thread and even contributed some videos back in 2014, but got busy and put the dash cam away for a while. I had a visor mount that had the cam on the passenger side and it worked out well when I was single and rarely had a passenger. I'm now married and after seeing two accidents(one quite bad) in the last two weeks, I want to get my cam up and running again. I checked it out and everything works, but the visor mount is a no-go since my wife rides in my car often now. What I have is a Mobius from 2014 and am looking for the lens extension cable they used to sell for it so I can stick the lens in front of my rear view mirror and have the box elsewhere. It looks like there is a newer version of the Mobius(?) but I think mine is older. Is this the correct cable http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mobius-ActionCam-8-lens-module-extension-cable-/381430157028?hash=item58cf024ee4:g:OW0AAOSwDFNWFGfi It's really hard to positively ID a cable from a picture, but that looks very much like the one I got from Hobby King to remotely mount my Mobius' lens/sensor. I'd just compare it to the little flat cable that's already in the Mobius, if the contacts look to be the same width/same quantity of them, then likely it will both fit and work without breaking anything. Edit: I am happy to report the Mobius is recording to the full capacity of the 128GB card I linked last week. (I had one incident where it wasn't recording, but I believe I'd shut my car off then turned it back on while the camera was shutting down.) I have been going round and round in my head about which dashcam to get. So naturally when I happen to be in Costco and see one, I buy it. 89 bucks. The reviews aren't great... http://www.costco.com/Cobra-Drive-HD-Dash-Cam,-GPS,-1080P,-118%C2%B0-Viewing-Angle,-8GB-MicroSD.product.100223046.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtW3xya018o

http://www.amazon.com/Rotatable-Cov...316%5Bb%7Cdeals So I bought $57 AUKEY camera and have a few issues to report. The bad: Horrific instructions that explain very little You have to use the app to view and save video files, it's a very bad app Sharing videos via app is impossible. I'm yet to pull the memory card to see if format is readable on PC, but that's the only option left. There is light underneath and on the back of camera. It's either constantly ON or blinking. Blinking function is not explained in the manual, no changes in camera operation. What the gently caress The "M" button does not capture still shots, which is what it supposed to do according to the manual. Permanently attaches to the windshield via 3M sticky pad, no other mounting options exist. Lens of camera is mounted on a silver-colored drum, it rotates independently from body. That is a very visible color and if you wanted to hide your camera, tough poo poo. Between this and the fuckign disco lights, that camera is drawing too much attention. The good: Very nice daytime image, acceptable night footage, license plates are readable ~15' away No battery Link to a phone app is very nice, wish it had more options Will pull current date/time from phone when synced Selectable quality and resolution on the fly Lens can be adjusted vertically by at least 180 degrees for different mounting positions Also, I'm very skeptical about the "G sensor", because there is nothing about it in the manual or on the box, or in camera options.

Your video reminded me of something similar that I captured last summer and never got around to uploading. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZV7mcMUnhqY From the tire marks that start around 0:35 it appears that this tanker truck was traveling in the right-hand lane when he lost a tire, flew across two lanes, and ended up on the median. Luckily it didn't look like he hit anybody. Also the dashboard glare in my Corolla is absolutely terrible and I need a CPL filter or something. My only concern is not being able to turn off the G-Sensor, I feel like, especially with the roads around me, the memory card would get filled up with pothole clips that it can't overwrite pretty quickly. If they can add an option to disable that or adjust the sensetivity then this looks like a really nice option for G1W prices.

Had one hell of a commute in to work today. First, this douchebag in the white car spends more time driving on the shoulder to get around traffic than he does in an actual lane, drives across a double solid white divider because he's too stupid to realize the lanes are about to merge back together, then gets all pissy because I don't yield to his dumb rear end. Eventually his rage boils over into a mighty honk. He then employs his old standby tactic of driving on the shoulder to blow past my car maaaaaaaaayb an inch off my passenger mirror, then immediately slams on his brakes because guess what, there's just more traffic up there, I wasn't just driving slow for fun after all https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64jUCgvF-3k When I last saw him he was riding off to the horizon, still on the shoulder. Shine on you crazy piece of poo poo Then. THEN. Two minutes after that this fucker jumps in front of me at a green light and throws my bag down on the floor from the passenger seat. I was pretty pissed at the time, but watching the footage back it's pretty funny just how impotently rage-y I sound. I was still pretty hot from the shoulder-fiend from earlier and this just tore it for me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsID_Me_7AE Have a good weekend everyone, drive safe goons

Oh I see stuff like this every day as well, it's just not usually so concentrated around me. I know it's childish but the longer I watched white car drive all over the road breaking the rules while the rest of us wait in line the madder I got. And the green light cutoff wouldn't have been such a big deal except that it's coming off of a freeway offramp so I was still slowing down from 60. I do laugh every time I hear myself punching the Honda logo on my steering wheel though, so there's that

Well, extreme for the area. Just as roads down in Florida are probably designed for a sustained +120F but not -20F. Each state's DOT will design with a different 'neutral temperature' in mind, and if pavement keeps buckling summer after summer, Minnesota's will have to get ratcheted up.

Ok, so I bought the Aukey DR-H2 and finally had some time to get the wiring set up. Jeep/Chrysler is stupid and doesn't use a normal fuse box anymore, so I had to get a little creative. Anyway, that's all set up. However, I'm still stuck on how to mount this thing. It's going to attach to the plastic trim at the top of the windshield. Here's the complicating factor: I have to be able to easily remove it. It has to be removed before I can get through the gate at work (also in certain areas when I've got the top removed). Velcro and similar fasteners would probably be fine, but wear out pretty quickly and will collect dust which pops free and will go right into the camera when I rip it free, so those are out. My other idea was just a small sheet of lexan/ABS plastic (I've got some scrap that's big enough) to fit between the camera and the trim. Aukey provided some 3M adhesive tape, but I live in a place that spent 2 weeks below 20*F this winter and is already over 100 for probably the next two months...I'm not confident it'll hold up. I could use JB Weld or something to stick the plastic to the camera, then maybe a dual-lock fastener (similar to velcro) on top, but that will still require replacement every few weeks. I don't care about drilling holes or whatever, I already drilled one for the wiring (it has a quick-disconnect about an inch from the camera, which is awesome). Trying to find quick disconnect fittings basically just gives me hood pins and some kind of goofy JDM rubber bands for bumpers (?). Godholio fucked around with this message at 06:29 on Jun 13, 2016 |

This stuff is pretty nice, 3M's Dual Lock. Adhesive behind the strip sticks incredibly solid to glass as well as the dot strip sections of windshields, not sure about molded plastic though. I pop my EZ pass from car to car all the time and it doesn't seem any worse for wear. The barbs are big enough that I doubt they'd clog up too readily. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002DZJQ0A
