Spite posted:

It already is.

I wonder if Trump is just going to try and hold rallies for the next four years while the country burns down. If his audiences start to dwindle, what will he do?
And if his popularity starts to fade how fast will the republicans get out the knives?

That seems like the best bet for the democrats - The republicans may be craven and power hungry but there are wedges to apply. Especially if they actually go all in to dismantling medicare. Endless ads of Trump saying "The Republicans want to do a number on your medicare"

Send people out and register voters, get them IDs where needed. They have to get the ground game back up and running and make sure people are ready to vote in 2018.

If they want to be really ballsy have a $1T infrastructure bill ready on day 1 and shout from the rooftops when the Republicans won't vote on it. (though it's quite likely a huge infrastructure spend will hurt the economy right now)

If Trump gets impeached or somehow stripped of any authority in the party then you can kiss LGBT rights for the next four to twelve years goodbye. If his recent past is any indication then Pence is just as much of a loving lunatic and is all but slavering to persecute anyone in that particular minority group. He just knows how to hide his crazy poo poo better than Trump and most of the fringe politicians do.

That person turned out to be Pence, and, before and after the election, there’s been some analysis and commentary suggesting that Mike Pence could be “the most powerful vice president ever.” And now, just days after the election, his power has increased tenfold as he is replacing Chris Christie as chairman of Trump’s transition team, filling all the major positions in the incoming Trump administration.

Mike Pence is perhaps one of the most anti-LGBTQ evangelical Christian political crusaders to serve in Congress and as governor of a state. Long before he signed the draconian anti-LGBTQ “religious liberty” law in Indiana last year, he supported “conversion therapy” as a member of Congress, and later, as a columnist and radio host, he gave a speech in which he said that marriage equality would lead to “societal collapse,” and called homosexuality “a choice.” Stopping gays from marrying wasn’t biased, he said, but was rather about compelling “God’s idea.”

Ben Carson, who compared homosexuality to pedophilia and incest, is a vice chairman of the transition team and so is Newt Gingrich, who has attacked what he called “gay fascism” and, in 2014, “the new fascism” around LGBTQ rights...

Don't forget that Pence was at least partially a pick meant to appeal to hard right evangelicals. He's basically a far more well spoken and politically savvy Ted Cruz.

While death is certain, the reason for and schedule of our tides remains an inexplicable mystery.

Again a very likpatous story
O'Reilly refusing to believe the moon is responsible for the tides reminds me of that Jack Chick comic with the Christian totally owning his atheist professor, asking him what keeps atoms held together. The professor responds "Gluons!' and the guy responds "WRONG! No one has ever seen gluons, they don't exist! It's actually Jesus that holds together every atom personally!" And then the professor quits because he knows he cannot argue with such iron-clad logic.

I dunno who that rear end in a top hat filling in for Glenn Beck today was, but what a piece of poo poo. He was talking about some video MTV released that starts out "Hey fellow white guys, it's almost 2017, here's a list of things we need to do better." It got a lot of backlash and I don't know much about it, but he was playing audio clips from the video and commenting on it. The very first thing the video said is that "America was never great," and the guy stops and goes on about how he doesn't know what that means, because people of all races have been rich in the US, and then says "So I guess maybe they're talking about racism?" He then mentions how he grew up in Cleveland, and apparently that means his life has been so hard, and then literally says "Yeah racism is bad but white people have it tough too!"

Crazy idea(?):
Trumplestilskin is going to do one term, then bow out. But, Ivanka, who seems to be angling toward getting experience/exposure as a surrogate 1st lady of sorts, will run in his stead and the Repubs will eat that poo poo up. They fell head over heels for Palin, so it stands to reason that if there is an opportunity to go with a pretty female face that also has "experience," as both a businessperson and a now government official (of sorts) and she has the Trump last name too, then she's a lock for the nom if not the presidency. Then, we get to hear not only how Republicans all personally freed the slaves, but they also are the only ones to successfully install a woman as president.

All of this, of course, being dependent upon Trump actually making it through the presidency and not being impeached or throwing us all into a nuclear hellscape.

Am I too far gone into thinking this?

I don't remember specifically anybody right-wing (except Sean Hannity wimping out and not even trying) but I do know Christopher Hitchens did it and said (paraphrasing from his article on it) "holy poo poo this is torture. gently caress anyone who says it's just "simulating" drowning. Bullshit, I was drowning". Though I don't know what his stance on it was before undergoing that (and only lasting 16 seconds).
