Auron posted:So I used to be able to control my Xbox One S with the KS8000 remote, but now that input just shows up as HDMI2/DVI instead of Xbox, and the remote no longer works. I've tried soft resetting the TV, plugging and unplugging the Xbox, etc, but it still won't label the Xbox like during initial setup. Not positive but a couple things I've noticed with my KS8 1. Unplugging the one connect box (your input dongle) seems to make everything start from scratch even more than unplugging the TV's power or resetting things. 2. On the home menu when you go to sources and highlight your HDMI input the Xbox is hooked up to, you can press up on the remote and it will let you edit what it shows up as (this may not get you anywhere other than labeling it, but if you switch things around here it may do something) 3. For control, from the home menu I added things by selecting universal remote and going through some initial setup. All that being said, I too feel like my Xbox label dropped off at some point, but I'm not sure about controllability as I use a harmony. Good luck.

Welp, my roughly 10 year old 67" Samsung LED DLP just died. From most of my reading its about a 200 dollar board that needs to be replaced. Worth keeping it around and repairing? Other than it not "firing" when you turn it on, it was working flawlessly up until the day it died. It has had a few wierd issues in the past where I had to unplug it to get it to turn off, so all signs point to the board going out. Kinda sucks not having a tv in the bedroom on hangovers.

Is there a recommended or one-stop online shop for installer stuff like plates, fish tape, angled boxes, keystone plates, cables? It seems like everything is spread all over the place, and monoprice seems to not have everything I need.

It's been as low as 2300 and change from reputable places, so that's not a terrible deal with the warranty, but not the best. For reference, Costco sells a 3 year squaretrade warranty for $90. Lots of people also using credit card price protection to "price match" the scammy places like East Coast TV to cut more off the price. Right now people have had good luck with the IElectrica seller on Ebay -- the TV is $2300 from them. I've found this deal thread really useful.

We bought a Samsung 55 JS9000 curved last year that's been a real piece of poo poo for about 4 months. Constantly shuts itself off, reboots itself, turns off the screen but still plays audio. We've had Samsung send techs out 3 times to do poo poo (basically replace the oneconnect box and main board) and it's still doing it. Samsung is seeming willing to refund us the cost. So we need a new TV that isn't an unreliable piece of poo poo. We've had Panasonic plasmas since 2001 that still work wonderfully (shame they aren't made anymore). Sony? LG? No Samsung, they have self-immolated their brand over the last couple years imo. 4k is nice but not necessary. Has to have good, intuitive app functionality. 55 inch. Curve is meaningless. An outstanding picture is a must. We paid 1600$ for the JS9000 and feel like that's a good ceiling.

Alright, in my quest to mount my TV I've now gone to retard lengths to get a pull-down mount and HDMI over fiber for a long run, so I'd be remiss if I didn't at least try to do the in-wall stuff right. Background is I'm hanging a 65" KS8000 over the fireplace. I'm using a Harmony hub which will be located at the equipment rack (out of sight of the TV). The problem to be solved is how to get the IR to the TV. The harmony comes with mini blasters (which are far from mini) that look like they use a 2.5mm mono plug into the hub. My choices are basically keystone behind the mount with connector x -> connector x/2.5mm adapter -> IR blaster, or an IR emitter keystone on the wall across from the TV. So I guess the questions are 1. Instead of trying to hunt down piecemeal stuff like 2.5mm mono keystone passthroughs, 2.5mm mono CL2-rated cable in like >50' lengths, should I just get readily-available CL2 RCA cable and deal with the adapters? I know I have to be careful about using stereo plugs and jacks to make sure my intended single signal has continuity. 2. Am I likely to be able to use any random IR emitter with the harmony hub? Like if I find a nice keystone IR emitter, or a smaller 2.5mm-wired emitter with adhesive instead of the large lovely one that came with the harmony, as long as I can physically adapt it to the hub port, what are my chances of getting it to work? 3. If I'm going to go overboard and run conduit, should I just use 1.5" schedule 40 gray pvc and call it a day? I can't fit the 2" in because the holes would be larger than 40% of the 2x6 studs. I know there's the carlon ent flexible stuff, but this is really for the small run, 10' horizontal and 8' vertical to an unfinished basement, seems like I can pick up a couple straights and 45 degree bends at home depot all with flared ends, for short money.

Maybe dumb question, but what's in the equipment rack and how much control over the TV do you need? If you are using a receiver and really only need to turn the TV on and off, HDMI-CEC may suffice.

bull3964 posted:Maybe dumb question, but what's in the equipment rack and how much control over the TV do you need? No dumb questions. Equipment rack should have been in quotes, as it's currently going to be a random spare coffee table in the unfinished basement with the receiver, xbones, and appleTV. Source switching is done at the receiver like you mentioned. I want to be able to drive the TV from the universal remote, the most common thing is changing the picture mode or backlight setting. I mean, it's not like the earth implodes if I wind up having to have the TV remote handy to control the TV. I just thought with a bit of forethought and another couple :tenbux:, I might be able to just extend IR to the TV, since I'm already opening up a wall and spending idiot money on all the rest of this crap. Currently thinking of doing something like this behind the TV, with one side being 1-gang power, one side being 1-gang 6-port keystone (HDMI, two 5-way posts for center channel, and whatever IR jack I wind up using), and the back being blank for expansion. I understand the possibility of using CEC, but I'm hesitant to rely on it, even if it works for my current setup. Also I don't know enough to know if it can be used to control anything other than on-off. Again, it may be a good solution, but given an open wall and a few bucks, I'd like to achieve the dream of never leaving the couch. The next hurdle to overcome is whether the xbone controller still works through the floor...games are a sort of nice-to-have, it's mostly there to be a UHD BRD player, which works fine being controlled by the harmony so it won't ruin my world if I can't play halo anymore. Don Lapre posted:Just buy these These are great, just what I was looking for. I had an old Universal Remote (brand) universal remote, and it used things like this that I just stuck right on the receivers of all my crap upstairs and was able to route everything downstairs over coax in an old house, they look much better than the stupid foam-bottomed manta ray repeater that came with the Harmony. I think I may do these blasters and just run the RCA cable in the wall and do some adapters. I'm sure it doesn't matter but for whatever reason the whole in-wall rating thing is bugging me. I'm sure it's fine to just pull the headphone extension but then I realize the oil tank and furnace are sitting right below where this is going to penetrate the plate to go up to the first floor. Thanks both of you for your thoughts and prayers as I start kicking holes in a perfectly good wall. xgalaxy posted:You'd think this day and age with wifi/ethernet enabled devices we could move past loving IR blasters. Agreed. It'd be nice to actually just run Ethernet up to the TV and be able to somehow send commands like SET BACKLIGHT TO 13 instead of MENU, PICTURE, ADVANCED SETTINGS, BACKLIGHT, RIGHT, RIGHT, RIGHT, RIGHT. I'm not an installer or whatever though so I'll probably forego trying to figure this poo poo out and maybe just hope I can make some macros for the harmony (I've only had it for a couple weeks).

I've had a mid-level Sony for years and it's held up really well. It's not fancy or impressive but it has been reliable and fine. That has more value to someone who doesn't even notice when dark scenes are washed out by white subtitles. No controversy over the brand and they still carry a sense of a better product, if not as flashy. Sony OLEDs will be out of our budget. What's their best current TV? X850d?
