It's probably been in the works for that long. Animated films are not exactly fast to make, especially when they're as pretty-looking as the promo stuff for Underpants has been.

Americans kept the spelling and changed the pronunciation to something that makes sense.

Mr. Squishy posted:Americans kept the spelling and changed the pronunciation to something that makes sense. It literally means "substitute for the occupier": a subordinate who acts in lieu when the holder of the post - the tenant - is not available. While both American English and the mother tongue use the modern spelling of "lieu" and Americans use the modern pronunciation as well, in this specific case the British use the antiquated pronunciation which is closer to "leuf". tl;dr - the loan word evolved, but the compound word using it did not evolve in the UK.

"My movie is about a shadowy monster that lurks in the woods and kidnaps children. Its name is, uh, Antlerman." I thought someone remade Blazing Saddles. Someone really needs to fix the lighting in this soda shop. Dr. Yang v Dr. Barnes Christopher Lambert probably should have been hired to host this. Cannibalim N' Puns Olyphant was in the first Hitman movie. Remember that? The MSJ fucked around with this message at 23:19 on Feb 5, 2017 |
