I have fallen head over heels for Fureru to Kikoeru, by Honna Wakou. I don't know exactly what it is but I went and read some Nozomi to Kimio and Nozoki Ana also, and like, I know they're supposed to be porn but I am honestly too wrapped up in the relationships of the characters to give a poo poo about that. Anyways, I ran out of translated issues, and now I'm just sitting here trying to find other manga to fill the void while I wait to see what happens.

So suggest to me some romance stuff that may or may not contain mild superpowers, but is otherwise just set in modern day everyday life, with lots of exploration of emotions. Please.

Has there been any worthwhile anime the last two-three years? I haven't really watched anything besides One punch and before that ping pong and Nichijou which I all liked.

Lots and lots of worthwhile anime. If you liked One Punch Man, a super easy recommendation would be Mob Psycho 100.

I did watch Mob 100, but only thought it was ok. Looking at the adrtw top10 lists I'm more looking for something like Chihayafuru, Ping Pong or Kids on the Slope.

The best show of the last couple of years for me was Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu, commonly just called Rakugo. It may sound/look sort of dry/pretentious at first blush but it weaves a tale that affected me on a pretty deep level. The story spans decades and you get to know the core cast of characters very intimately, learning their good and bad points and how they grow as a "family" through a variety of turbulent periods. The second season (and overall ending) in particular was outstanding.

Shirobako was recent and really really good, though it's not much like the shows you've mentioned you enjoyed. If you're looking for something more upbeat/action-y, Haikyuu and Chihayafuru are two really good recent sports shows. Since you mentioned Nichijou, which is from 2011, I may as well mention Steins;Gate from the same year, which is excellent. Other random good things from the past 5 years or so in a bunch of genres: Space Battleship Yamato 2199 (space opera), Konosuba (fantasy comedy that gets really good in season 2 imo), Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun (good romcom, much more comedy than romance), Hyouka (excellent laid-back mystery show), and From The New World (fantasy horror dystopia).

I'd also bring up Mob Psycho as one you'd most likely enjoy, but that was mentioned above.

Oh Lion is definitely up there too, no question. The only reason I'm feeling a bit stronger about Rakugo at the moment is that it ended so strongly whereas Lion had to by necessity end in the sort of middle of the story. The second season coming up in the Fall will probably solidify it in my view assuming it covers the arcs I think it will.

another surprisingly good show this past season was Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, which outside of one troubling pair of characters that eventually gets resolved anyway, is a really chill, heartwarming, and actually pretty funny show about an office lady and the Lion And The Mouse-style story she has with a wounded dragon she finds one day, who vows to serve her as a maid as thanks for the help. It's goofy and cute. It's available on Crunchyroll, too.

edit: oh, the second season of Attack On Titan is happening right now, if you liked the first season. THINGS are happening, starting from the very first episode of the new season. It's a single cour though, unfortunately, though there will absolutely be some serious poo poo going on this season if they plan to end it where I think they will.

i'm drawing a blank for recommendations so i thought that maybe the fine anime experts here at Something Awful might be more knowledgeable than i

a 12 episode anime would be ideal

It's 26 plus an OVA, and there's some caveats to this rec (it does occasionally dip into territory that might be "too real"), but Mirai Nikki. If she liked Madoka and Evangelion, it'll probably be a slam dunk, it hit a lot of the same notes as both for me.

Also suggest Mushishi and Kino's Journey for Mononoke, Mob Psycho 100 for One Punch Man.

I also feel like you might be interested in the Abe trilogy of Serial Experiments Lain, Texhnolyze, and Haibane Renmei. They lie sort of on Bebop/Trigun territory, but much less action

I'm positive Mushishi and Kino's Journey are dubbed. Mob Psycho 100 I doubt, because it's very recent.

The other three I'm not sure about, but they're old and well regarded enough that I can't imagine they aren't.

You can skip to part 4 (Diamond Is Unbreakable) and watch it without having seen the rest. I skipped over Stardust Crusaders because of the slow pacing, and Diamond is Unbreakable is damned amazing, revolving around a small-town murder mystery and going in all sorts of fun directions that the earlier Jojo installments didn't touch.

Nate RFB

JoJo Part 3 has a lot of good parts, especially in the backend, but enough of it is slow or kind of medicore that I'd also support skipping it if need be to get to Part 4, because Diamond Is Unbreakable owns.

I personally liked the straightforward focus of Stardust Crusaders. There was a crystal clear end goal and the fun of the show was the journey to get there. With Diamond Is Unbreakable, it's a much more episodic adventure. It's goals keep changing so it feels very different from previous Jojo where there was only a single clear narrative arc.

Also I decided to rewatch the first episode of Zvezda again and 1) It's still the goofiest thing ever and I love it, and 2) I still don't really care about Kate's battle outfit that much and I still think the SA backlash to it was way overblown.
