Yeah, the font reminds me a bit of the early 00's craze on skinning every application. But that is honestly the worst GUI faux-pas they made. The backend that managers/payroll uses is all business. No weird fonts, buttons, colors, etc... Its a huge improvement over anything we have used in the past, and some of the horrid spectacles others in the thread have posted.

We hire a few hundred 16-20 year old kids every summer, timeclocks are the only way to make sense of when they actually work. And our timekeeping is an on-prem dogshit database that can't pre-date time off requests or keep schedules. It's garbage.

Isn't, for a timecard application, much better to just read security cards swipes/signals? why do they have to bother with providing UI to the people? a management UI is needed, of course, but why more than that?

poo poo pissing me off but not pissing me off: lost my best network engineer today. New position is way better than what I was offering him in terms of applying his skillset and money and I wished him all the best. He said it had nothing to do with my management or the company, and I really hope that's true. He was an awesome teammate and I needed him for a bunch of initiatives I'm pushing. I hate interviewing and hiring when I know there are long odds I'm going to come up with a replacement as good as the person I'm losing.

Yes, it's been talked about for years and browsers have slowly been shutting off running flash apps. Adobe finally announced a kill date just last week, for 2020. Perfect timing to upgrade to a flash app!!

We have 2 timeclocks, one that is used with our call dispatching application and one that is just a standard time clock. They are incompatible with each other. If you sign into the wrong one, or the system breaks down in the middle of the day(fairly common), it requires management to go in, wipe all your hours for the week, and rebuild them from scratch. Did I mention we are a large worldwide company? While this doesn't affect me much(since my position is an odd one that amounts to 'Fix all the tech issues, otherwise eh'), it can be rather annoying. It is also another reason why I will be soon.

Pissing me off: We don't support Macs. Our software is .net based. We offer a "cloud" solution in the form of our terminal server farm but our premade .rdp files and various supporting software don't work on Mac. Our official line is "You should be able to at least connect using rdp if you find a client for Mac, here's a doc with some programs others have had success with and the settings you'll need, good luck have fun." Management has decided our unofficial line is now "even though our software doesn't work on a Mac, very few Mac rdp clients support our funky gateway settings, weyave no Macs in house to test on, and WebEx support sessions work only intermittently on Macs so getting connected to end users is a chore, support must get Mac users up and running. Also even though the doc is outdated and refers to old settings and apps that don't exist anymore it will never ever be updated because the VP of support wrote it 5 years ago and you are hurting his feefees by even suggesting it." Not my problem because I never even touch first line support anymore but it pisses me off that management is so short sighted that they can't see how this will damage our reputation in the long run. This is the same team that, when presented with mathematical evidence that our rdp bandwidth requirements were wildly unrealistic in the age of users with multiple 4k monitors, which is causing them to pitch a fit when they have network issues trying to run 30 sessions over a DSL line, said we would not be changing our bandwidth requirements because "we don't want prospective clients to think they need to buy more expensive internet service to use our products." BITCH THEY WILL ANYWAY BUT ITLL BE AFTER MONTHS OF SUPPORT CALLS AND AFTER THEY TELL THEIR INDUSTRY FRIENDS HOW poo poo TIER WE ARE. How can anyone not see how short-sighted this is?

Y'all ever get really pissed off at somebody throwing you under the bus multiple days in a row, and after two attempts of responding straight to the facts you decide to really let loose at the person who doesn't think you're competent at a job because a difficult ticket is taking a few days to resolve? And then you think "Boy this isn't going to do any good, I'll just delete this email and write a two sentence summary of where we're at" But then you shrug your shoulders and hit send anyway because you're grumpy as gently caress dealing with this bullshit on a saturday morning I... probably made a mistake here.

The only other details that make it more interesting are that the guy is sending URGENT PRIORITY 1 tickets to our MSP and copying me on them, despite knowing that I'm the one handling this network ticket and have been for the past month. I've solved multiple separate issues but things are still not 100% (because the solution loving sucks, purchased by my predecessor but installed by me because he didn't want to deal with it). Every week I dedicate more time to this bullshit than anything else I do, yet this guy sends tickets to other people asking for "real solutions". No matter how many times I detail the progress we've made so far and our current issue that we're working through, he whines at the first sign of a problem on his end like I haven't been addressing it. Oh and he's one of the six people in the organization at a higher level than I am. He's on the same tier as my boss, and has been here three times as long. So mouthing off to him is most certainly a bad idea as he kind of has 'protected' status. We'll see how many meetings they can squeeze in on Monday and Tuesday about this, I'm going on vacation Wednesday at which point they can all go gently caress themselves with a rusty nail.
