it's not random. is a martial arts tournament the best way to determine the fates of trillions or more people? probably not, but the outcome of fights is never random in dragon ball gowasu can't fault goku because it's not his fault. the only reason he had any chance of surviving at all is because of goku! maybe you think that's bad writing, or the way the show has handled this could be better, but this is not a point that should be in contention because they've spelled this poo poo out several times

Positive: Goku convinced Zeno to give people a chance to fight via tournament. Negative: Goku pushed for the tournament to happen *right now* and not whenever Zeno decided to do it. Goku both helped people and also made the situation happen now instead of later or possibly letting Zeno get bored and forget or whatever it is tiny god children do. This isn't a case of being at blame or blameless. Most of it is accidental.

I'm a bit annoyed at characterization differences (Roh wanting to find a way to save a planet when the anime shows him as a gigantic piece of poo poo, Belmod apparently being entirely fine with manipulating people who will get destroyed soon despite his love of JUSTICE) but overall I do like the extra spotlight there. For once, it's on someone not named Goku! But then Beerus beats everyone teaming up on him with no effort to show how powerful Beerus is so Goku can look strong despite being weaker. And then we remember we're reading the Super manga.

Everyone went for him at once, he dodged their opening attacks with a skill Whis taught him, he proved to not be perfect at it when he got grabbed, and then he managed to force the robot dude's hands apart and get out of the way of a follow up attack. Yeah, he tossed Champa into the air and distracted everyone, but his energy ball was completely no-sold. He didn't curb stomp anyone, he dodged a few attacks and used a distraction that led to an attack that completely whiffed. The only person there who we saw him overpowering was robot dude, and even that was just escaping from a grab. Yeah, he managed to trick a bunch of them for like a second, but that led to nothing. He certainly didn't do that stuff effortlessly, either. He doesn't even get the first proper elimination, Belmod got that. Dislike the manga all you want, but at least argue from a position with facts, not with exaggerations.

I said he beat them, which is exactly what happened: everyone teamed up on him and accomplished absolutely nothing, while he got out of it nearly unharmed and managed to hurt Mosco and Champa. The fight was completely one-sided and for the person that had the least reason to be winning. Belmod kicking down Sidra is the first big hit in the fight but that doesn't change that, until that point, the focus was on Beerus just being better than everyone else combined.

Just watched the episodes leading up to the announcement where Zeno announces the erasing of universes. Goku definitely just wants a fight, Zeno ups the ante. Goku even mentions trying to convince him otherwise. Yeah, Goku may have set the stage but it's presented as an opportunity for weaker universes to survive. Zeno continues to make it worse, but Goku doesn't really have an out aside from fighting.
