The Killing Bites author’s other work, Arachnid, had a lot of out-of-left-field rapey stuff (and I mean a lot - it ended with a rape zombie apocalypse overrunning Japan), so yeah, I wouldn’t bet that’s the last you’ll see of that sort of thing.

Like how he didn't really know about his "friends", and how he's completely ill-equipped to deal with this new superhuman fightclub situation. Accentuated by the fact that right as those dudes are about to get tore up he's slamming on the brakes to try to do something. It's still skeevy on the whole but protag himself isn't on board with it and does try to stop it.

The new trigger show is so by the numbers it's almost painfull. Sticking to the 3 episodes rules to see if it goes somewhere interesting.

Well drat, Violet Evergarden was not at all what I was expecting. But I really like the concept, and KyoAni's doing fantastic work on this, as they do on nearly everything. I'm really interested in this as a lighthearted drama about Violet discovering her humanity, so if this show starts doing some war conspiracy bullshit I'm probably gonna drop it.

Mitsuboshi Colors is the Big City edition of Non Non Biyori and all of it owns.

Killing Bites has a problem in that it lacks a sympathetic protagonist. Generic hapless dude is boring and generic, even beyond the whole "accessory to attempted rape" thing making him even less sympathetic than usual. On the other hand, Honey Badger's got the standard violent, aggressive, and perpetually angry stereotype going which is as boring as generic hapless dude. Mysterious company man and busty assistant are straight out of the stock character handbook. Even the fight wasn't particularly intriguing or well done. I mean, sure, you can do an unsympathetic protagonist or two, but you have to have something to grab a viewer's interest, and "gets kinda furry and has claws" isn't enough. Gonna be a struggle even giving it the three episode test, frankly.

The Mitsuboshi Colors anime is faithful to the manga in that Kotoha is the best character in both of them.

Checked out - Death March: generic trash! I somehow hoped it would be a decent "trapped in an mmo fantasy" but all signs point to nope no thanks. Franxx: I love this show and all of its flaws and hope it becomes really good. The first episode was pretty cliche but I like the heroine and monster designs. Toji no Miko: Premise was kind of generic but it's... it's a sports / supernatural battles show with girls everywhere and it's not automatically porn like Valkyrie Drive was. I'm not in the mood to watch all of the first episode tonight, but I'm going to return to it tomorrow - I hope it's wholesome and fun and has cool swordfights. Or if it must not be wholesome, then let it be like Keijo! where it's fun and clever instead! And I want to watch Killing Bites and Violet Evergarden tomorrow morning - all signs point to one of these being really good and one of them being really bad. Yay an anime season with stuff I like in it!

Franxx did at least have ‘yes, these kids are in an actual death-cult’ to spice things up a little. Hopefully they lean into that and have the characters start to question the base premises they’re operating under a little more.

Toji no Miko is dumb but it's fun. It's like a battle shounen but with moe girls and plays it pretty well. Second episode was kinda meh though. I wish they stick with the sports stuff. ViggyNash fucked around with this message at 04:52 on Jan 14, 2018 |

Marchen Madchen was... weird. I like the way they introduced the alternate world, but between the episode, the op/ed, and the next episode preview, the show seems a little too obsessed with getting it's characters naked.

death march is written by a pedophile, for pedophiles. i kinda doubt the anime is gonna change the basic nature of it, so that's a whole lotta nope.

No need to waffle around with the infighting, there's a conspiracy to disassemble and monsters to murder.

Has anyone here actually read the Grancrest LN? Just curious since I skimmed the translated Grancrest manga, and wow did they manage to drain basically all tension out of Theo getting involved in that duel in the anime. Like, I don't even think it would have taken particularly more screentime to do it that way, and it would have actually given him some characterization and interactions (especially since the other part he should have gotten was either cut or moved later). A lot of other things I'm uncomfortable with, but just focusing on that one since, again, it wouldn't have even taken particularly more time to do the changes. It's also moving at an absolutely absurd pace compared to the manga, having reached a point well over 200 pages in after 2 episodes, so I'm wondering if the LN moved at a similarly breakneck pace, or this is just the anime cutting a shitload of character development for one reason or another. Because I'm uncomfortably familiar with a number of lower quality adaptations in the past that have done similar things.

But I would have also been perfectly fine with "I really just want us to have a fair match so I'm gonna expedite this whole treason thing by joining you so you finish faster." --- Darling in the FRANXX has a lot of well written metaphor as well as plenty of cheesy innuendo built into it's terminology. There's also a 90% chance this will not be as hosed up as Kill La Kill, in part because I just looked up the staff on this show and it doesn't seem like a lot of the classic Trigger team (specifically Imaishi) is directly involved.

The new Wit show is super weird. I thought there might be more to the premise, but it literally is a teen girl lusting after a goofy 45 year old dude. Neat touch though: the song she listens to at the beginning is the ed song. I knew I recognized the artist when they showed it. ViggyNash fucked around with this message at 15:57 on Jan 14, 2018 |

Watching Killing Bites this morning and it feels like I've found a long-lost hyper-violent 90s ova. It's edgy, it's got sex and gore, it's dumb as hell, and I don't know if I want to watch it or not and I sure as hell have no idea how it's being made in 2018. On the other hand, the main character is a muscle-bound lady who fights and well. I like that?
