There are *plenty* of sub $30 liquors that are fantastic. Booze doesn’t have to pricey or only available in boutique stores to be good. I wish I could find it, but I remember years and years ago a newspaper article about how in blind taste tests people who claimed they were vodka conosours couldn’t differentiate between budget and premium brands. Just because it’s $15, doesn’t mean Kirkland vodka isn’t a drat good vodka. (I’m a vodka drinker, can you tell?) Just give it a try. mewse posted:Find a colo so they don't have to look at it any more? Bonus that it would have proper AC and redundancy.. A few PoE switches and routers / firewalls won't kick out the sort of heat that a bunch of servers do. Considering the state that your building is in, getting the servers/backup appliances into a climate controlled and secure space isn't a terrible idea as long as you can get a large enough pipe between your office and the colo location.

I usually keep a bottle on hand, as my scotch moods vary. I tend to like a lot of the Islay's (peaty as poo poo), but sometimes something a little smoother/less peaty hits the spot.

Well that was a strange one... A store called and said one of their cash registers' time was way off.. Which it shouldn't be because they sync to a domain controller. So of course I first check the domain controller and it's right. Then I connect to the computer in question and run "w32tm /stripchart" I could see the computer dropping 3-6 seconds behind as each actual second ticks by. Eventually I figured out that "Sandisk SSD Dashboard" that I had installed some time ago to update the SSD firmware was somehow causing it. Remove it and everything is back to normal. stevewm fucked around with this message at 15:54 on Mar 2, 2018 |

I saw (maybe the same one?) blind taste test stuff where people couldn't tell the difference between smirnoff and goose, not sure what sort of awful palates those people have but I can definitely tell when I'm drinking smirnoff. I drink a lot of stoli though, probably my favorite, reasonably price, vodka. Also, it's Friday and I'm in the office, gently caress. I used to work from home every Friday, but that's been squashed because :reasons: brought up the fact that I negotiated that as part of the poo poo raise I got last year, but basically was told to pound sand. You wanna know a quick way to make me give no fucks? Start taking away my perks at a job that is already a loving nightmare. Almost done with my resume and then it's time to make it rain to every decent looking job.

I've been watching linkedin job searches for a while now, sadly most of the network/system admin stuff I see is for MSPs, I want out of MSP hell Though if they wanted to pay me 15-20k more I'd definitely do it without a second thought. The lovely thing is, my benefits here are great, medical is awesome, 401k half-match, education etc etc. Standard benefits at other places with the same pay rate would be like a 5k reduction in pay, so I need to make at minimum double that to really come out feeling ok about changing jobs. That's currently my struggle. A large portion of my job market is MSPs looking for more bodies to burn. I'm in the same spot as you where I will do everything in my power to get out of MSP hell, but if you wanna give me 20k, alright I guess I could stick it out a little longer. Currently I've tossed my resume at a couple security positions and a dev ops position I am woefully under qualified for. HERE'S TO HOPING.

Yeah I'm going to try applying at devops positions because I'm underqualified to be a 100% network engineer; I mean I MIGHT be able to hack it, but it also could cause a crash and burn which I cannot afford with a wedding coming up in November plus moving in a few months. I've seen a few senior systems admin positions that I'm going to shoot for but I have a feeling that there are too many gaps in my knowledge to really nail down a senior position, though it might work out. We'll see, I've got my fingers crossed, I am well paid for my job as it is right now but I'm loving worked to the bone. Not a moment of downtime and I'm constantly harassed about why this or that isn't getting done, one day I might just snap and yell the truth at whoever bothers me "My teammate is an idiot and a lazy shite, everyone under us is loving stupid, our company of 100ish is held up on the backs of 5-10 people actually doing work while the rest coast through"

Okay, this is a two parter. yesterday, somone in sales asked if a customer of ours in Ecuador could order online. They have to call in, tie someone up on the phone....so we set them up with an account on our e-commerce site and they immediately placed a $400 order for some parts. Cool, right? NOPE Queen bitch calls the CEO (who is president of commercial sales) AT HOME to rat him out for some reason. Who then calls me and bitches ME out. "Why would you give someone access to our system?" Uhhh they can see those parts/prices on the main website... "We don't know that guy from Adam" He's a customer. In our system. He has placed many orders before. "He calls us once a year to order parts..." IS THAT NOT A CUSTOMER? So anyway we're supposed to approve any customer that we allow to order through our website, through her. Durr. And I look like this horrible animal who has NO CONCERN FOR OUR COMPANY DATA SECURITY

Last placed I worked had a "Wow! Points" system in which you could give coworkers points for a commendation. They could then turn in those points for a "jeans day" that allowed them to wear jeans on a non-friday. Each employee was given a bank of Wow points to start the year. My coworker and I derived that if we just dumped all of our points to the other person we could wear jeans for about a month. Then we both decided that we just couldn't possibly care enough. Something about peppy-cheery-rah-rah company culture just misses me by a mile.
