Gonna have to point out here: billionaires don't actually have billions worth of liquidity in the form of money. They're all invested into properties and stocks which are either productive enough to generate profit, or which can be speculated on to raise their capital value. Any real form of "wealth redistribution" means transferring control of those properties from capitalists to the classes which actually perform labor upon them to make them valuable in the first place.

we already know this isn't true, because low-wage jobs are generally a lot more work than high-paying jobs are and there's not nearly as much jealousy as one would think

The issue with this is that some jobs require more education and work than others. Fewer people may want to do a job that takes 8 years of higher education that requires them to work 50+ hours a week if they get paid as much as a high school dropout who works 35 hours per week.

Nobody would have to work fifty hour works

I think this would be a problem in terms of "working more (or a more unpleasant job)," but not with regards to education (since in this hypothetical society higher education would be covered by the state).

There are some partial solutions (like splitting more unpleasant work among many people working part-time, though that's obviously not possible for everything), though I agree that it's probably true you'd need some compensation disparity for the particularly lovely jobs (though the way society works now, there's almost a negative correlation between the difficulty of work and how much a person is paid*, so if anything we're already experiencing a hosed up "more work doesn't equal more money" society).

* Like, to take myself for example, I make $37k with an extremely low stress job where I sit at a computer all day and can easily take off when I'm sick or be late or whatever. I have friends who make like $10 or $11/hr in retail, and they work waaaay harder than I do. And I know people from college who make six figures as financial analysts or accountants, and they don't work much more than I do. As things stand now, with rare exceptions, the hardest and most unpleasant work is generally the work that pays the least.

Just have UBI but also make work compulsory and assigned by the state. Specialized intellectual workers like scientists would be classified as alphas, bureaucrats as betas, manual laborers as gammas, etc. Problem solved

Look, if you still have capitalism in any significant capacity with UBI it will fail. Note my idea of job guarantee is like 21 hours a week. (You would get a dour day weekend.)

Remove all currency and have the state issue ration cards and work uniforms according to the central planning committee.

Make sure to wear your work uniform and carry your papers at all times, Comrade Citizen.

Also all work uniforms will be variants of boiler suits and steel capped work boots.

I don't know.I would just prefer to have the movie studios owned by the employees. So that we don't get poo poo like what happened for the Hobbit.

didn't tarkovsky have to change his movies to satiate the communist government? and like his last movies were made outside the ussr?

I don't think socialism stifles creativity (likes there's tons of folks who would be doing interesting things but can't because no money) but that's a bad example lol

Tarkovsky had to get around the censors because he kept wanting to make his movies about Christian spiritualism. That's why Tarkovsky is the safe Soviet director who reactionaries can love, because his true creativity was being stifled by godless communists.

Anyway, it's impossible to imagine any Soviet film getting made today because none of them had to be made with commercial appeal in mind. The Soviet version of War & Peace was a 4 part 7 hour epic in the mid-60s, and Hollywood wasn't able to recreate that kind of seriality until Lord of the Rings. Come and See also just barely made its way past the Soviet censors to come out practically untouched, but if you tried to make something that nightmarish today it'd get an NC-17 rating and nobody would see it.

It's the third best version. (Worse is the horrible animated adaptation, fallowed by the non fan cut of Jackson's Films, with fan cut of Jacksons film in second, and then the Rankin bass one in first.)I love the songs of the Russian version.
