The more I look at the Astray No-Name, I can't help but wonder if the un-broken version is going to be P-Bandai or the owner's end-of-season upgrade. Because there's no way Bandai's leaving money on the table with a "broken" Gunpla design that doesn't lead to a complete/"repaired" version. At the very least, I'm curious to see how many of the parts are reversible because man did people get a lot of mileage out of the original Fenice with a pair of kits and its mirrored parts.

On the other hand this kit comes with extra faces (which probably use figure rise style construction) and is priced more in line with the rest of the figure rise range. So perhaps either a corporate type wants this kind of tech to only be associated with figure rise now or it's a bit of piggy back marketing for the figure rise line.

The whole point of the right side is it's been styled as a makeshift cape like the Exia Repair, and it's easy to see how it started off looking like the left side if you look at any of the pictures without the No-Name rifle covering the body. Especially when the origin of the kit is "it's been through hell and back to get 500 wins" in GPD. All the damage has accumulated; and been repaired, into its current form. Again, there simply is no way he could've gotten 500 life and death matches for a so-called "dead game". If he actually did, that sounds like a much cooler show to watch. Like, imagine a world where nobody is interested in Gundam, but every dispute could be settled by a Gunpla Duel.

The asymmetric, evil appearance represents Tsukasa's evil, hosed up mental state. If Tsukasa gets over himself and shows up again but not hosed up and evil, I bet he'll have a new version of the Astray that reflects his growth.

The entire right-had side is just the inner frame of what clearly should match the left, with the weapon used as a cape to cover the damage for style. I honestly don't know how you got to "random bits stuck on", because the entire aesthetic is "it got broken, I'm gonna leave it that way and build around it". I picked up the SDCS RX-78 Gundam frame set and the SDCS Zaku II today. Overall I'm fairly pleased with them. The head builds are fantastic, well above par for the course. The rest of the kit isn't too bad either, the color separation is there (on the RX-78 an Zaku at least), though the parts count is a bare minimum. If you like the SD frame look, they're a real good buy. If you prefer the CS frame look however, you will be less happy. The CS frame itself is way too expensive for what is a single grey or white runner in a big fancy box. At 648yen MSRP that's a full hundred yen over something more fun like a Petit’gguy or Haropla, and now your cheapo fun-time SD is pushing into the low-mid HG price range. Also despite what advertising has suggested, the frames are not quite freely interchangeable, it will take some effort and a small amount of prying (  ) to remove all the parts from the frame. While I managed to switch mine over fine I can definitely see something snapping with repeated switches.
