You can't install more than 1, but it does have a different level of effect on different ships, it' seems. my shuttle with it only takes 10% per launch, my hauler still takes 20%.

Different ship types have different native launch costs. Shuttles and maybe explorers seem to be the top tier for that.

Thundarr posted:Speaking of base building, is there a realistic way to combine rooms on multiple floors without needing to use exterior stairs or a huge connecting chamber out of wall panels? To add to what has been said before, there are also interior stairs pieces you can learn from the BP analyser. A couple of different types. Mostly they take up one cuboid room "unit". My own question - can someone explain how the Buy/Sell percentages on the economy scanner actually affect the price of things you want to buy/sell? I thought I had it down but then saw a fairly large fluctuation in real-world prices when the percentages were mostly the same.

So I started a Creative game, and I’ve zipped through a good chunk of the Atlas storyline in like, 4-5 hours (far more than my Normal game). I’ve made about 3 bases too, and it’s so much fun having this freedom. Now I’m stuck at the bit where I have to do 2 missions for the Explorers Guild because none of the missions I hand in seem to register.

I noticed that some times you can get quests directly from a guild rep (alien to the right) as opposed to the general rep (alien on the left) where you can browse/hand in/abandon missions. Maybe one right from that source will count?

Found an answer to this on reddit, because that's where all the people with spreadsheets live apparently - https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/95elq6/the_economy_of_no_mans_sky/ The short answer is that the Buy/Sell percents on the long range scanner don't mean squat for non "trade-economy" goods. Stuff like elements, crafted items... those are outside that trading system and the price varies from terminal to terminal in any given system. Now I'm wondering if I build 5 different trade terminals in my freighter, if I can abuse that to find a better price for my Chlorine farm. Worth a shot, I've made like 70 million in a few hours today, could have been 80 or 90 with this knowledge probably.

ToastyPotato posted:Grow times are apparently extremely long after the new patch, which was done to "balance" the fact that they now grow whether you play or not. Dunno if there is a chart with the updated grow times somewhere. My understanding was one of the shortest was now 2 hours. I can't find where I found this again, it was like a screenshot of typed text on an image hosting site, but I wrote down what I needed for stasis chambers: Frost Crystal - 1 hr Coprite, Gamma Root, Star Bulb - 4 hrs Solanium and Cactus - 16 hrs So following that I believe Mordite and Fungus are both 4 hours too. Cactus harvests at 100 per plant so it's not a big deal to get a stockpile of that going, but Solanium is the bottleneck. I have a farm with 2x what I need for a batch of stasis chambers and I still go to manually harvest it from wild plants sometimes.

Has anyone else been doing co-op with friends? Ran into a problem with two different sets of friends yesterday where using the Signal Booster (or really any other method of getting locations) just doesn't work. It does the whole animation as if it's showing me where something is, but nobody gets any waypoint markers at all and nothing we tag sticks around. Any workarounds? Even restarting our clients and reconnecting wouldn't work, but playing solo it worked fine.

I sometimes play with friends, sometimes solo. Is there a way to call my freighter to me that I'm missing?

Also another multiplayer bug, I called my freighter in and all three of us landed on it, then I warped the freighter. We all warped with it but when we came out of warp one of my two friends got ejected out of the freighter into space and immediately died and lost the stuff in his inventory.

The same way you call your ship to you, with the quick menu. There is a summon ship and summon freighter button.

So I've played this game for all of 6 hours, last night some random joined my game and offered me 1.7 billion Units for free. Was I an idiot to decline this? Didn't want to spoil the progression too much, though I did accept 79 million worth, since that was fewer orders of magnitude away from the 1 million I'd happened upon thus far.

So a question about the round rooms that you use to start the base quest line. If you place them on the round foundation they'll be raised off the ground and you need to jump up into the doorway. I figured there would be ramps or stairs for thus eventually, and none of them seem to work? Even the small ramp that snaps and angles itself correctly to the door won't allow me to place it, saying it's an invalid location. Do I need to just not use foundations?

The ramp works, it just has an angle that doesn't work that seems to be the default angle. I do not know why that angle even appears as an option when it cannot be placed, but this is NMS so it is what it is. You need to adjust it to make it work right.

Ok time to settle down. I’ve been fooling around with lots of temporary bases all over many planets and several on each planet, but it’s time to pick one to be with for the rest of my life. What’s a good place to set a permanent main base? Near a portal? Near a trading post? Near an outpost? In the middle of nowhere?

I would say not to build near other major structures, especially trading posts, because it'll tank your framerate. At least it does on my PS4 Amateur and I regret doing that each time I return.

I'm in the middle of the base building questline, is that base going to be the only one that ever has NPCs living in it? Also, 48-slot haulers don't cost much less than a really nice freighter.

A trading post can seem nice as a location, but when you warp to it your ship won't be an a pad anyway (no free liftoffs), shop bots you build will largely share inventory with the trading post and every other planet-side shop, and the aforementioned frame rate issues plus constant airport noise. I'd shoot for a scenic location in a wealthy star system, ideally one with several different world types so you can shuttle around collecting valuable plants and materials until you have your own garden established. If you're near some mineral veins that you can drop auto miners on, even better. If you want easy portal access you'll probably want to build sort of near it, just to make sure you don't lose track of where it is.

Yeah, I 'd recommend finding a portal on a planet you like, and then see if you can't find any scenic locations nearby afterwards. Helps if you want to show off your base to others later on. Phy posted:I'm in the middle of the base building questline, is that base going to be the only one that ever has NPCs living in it? No, if you make a new base and place the consoles in that, the NPCs will just magically teleport over.

I guess one thing I should clarify if my plan is to go to a different galaxy before setting up a permanent main base there: can a portal take you to a planet in another galaxy or only in the current one? It'd be a shame to set up a sweet base in the one peaceful spot in a hellscape galaxy if nobody will ever be able to visit since they stayed in Euclid or went somewhere else entirely.

I just went with an aesthetic choice and have been dropping mini-bases (computer/teleport/shack) on other planets with a lot of resources to jump around between them as needed. Now I have to get my head around freighters/frigates etc... and save up for my dream ship, which I really hope shows up again (40 slot S class fighter that was way out of my price range but looked really sweet).

I appear to have run into a bug in which the final mission given by your base armorer keeps resetting itself instead of tracking your progress and none of the fixes I have seen have budged it at all, and even though it's a completely unimportant side mission and all I would get for finishing it is some nanites, it's bugging me so profoundly I don't want to play more of the game because it's all I can focus on.

There’s empty systems now and also abandoned/ruined systems with hosed up planets. If you install an economy scanner on your ship you can filter and get some good info on the systems you jump to. This is actually pretty cool because at launch the game was hilarious basic in its system/planet generation and the entire universe used the said seed so every planet was already conquered by one of the three races and every single planet and moon was littered with habitable outposts and stations.
