Yep though it was the Athenians not all Greeks. When the Persians invaded Greece rallied behind Athens despite Athens clearly being the party in the wrong and most of the Greeks hating them. It’s rather bizarre

Wheat Loaf posted:300 is a pretty dull movie to me. I don't really get much out of it either way so it's strange that people manage to have such massive arguments over it. I thought the visuals were pretty incredible when I first saw it, both the cinematography and the half naked men, and left the theater thinking it was a fantastic movie. When it came out on DVD 6 months later, I put it on with my roommates, and halfway through my roommates complained that it was boring. I realized that I was pretty bored too. CG can't sustain a full movie, and there was better porn on the internet.

Oh, the English-language version of The Intouchables finally happened? I hope the filmmakers do a better job of adapting a fairly well-received French film into English, to a presumably American setting than the loving monsters that ruined Sleepless Night did. Good lord, that remake loving blew.

feedmyleg posted:The one that's coming was originally called Robin Hood: Origins and was meant to be a franchise-starter. There was another Robin Hood movie that was meat to spin off into a cinematic universe for each character. And there's also like 5 more Robin Hood films in development, but I don't think a single one is meant to be a straight Robin Hood story, they've all got some kind of dumb twist on the material. This is reaching back in the thread a bit, but going by the trailer, this actually seems to be what they're doing, with Robin Hood as a class traitor who pulls heists to take down the corrupt government, and what seems to be a Battle In Seattle-inspired fight with masked up protesters versus medieval riot cops. Seems very King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword, in a good way.

The eye's are the only reason I want to see that film. Seeing the trailer have me actual chills from his unnatural it looks. It made me feel as uncomfortable as stuff like Salo and Cannibal Holocaust. Which is always good fun

The eyes were actually a selling point for me. In the manga, Alita is one of the few characters that have the big eyes, all the normal humans have regular size ones which adds to her sense of isolation.

The weird eyes are literally the only thing I (and thus, because I am the center of the universe, presumably most people) know about this film. Even if they wanted to make them normal now the marketing team would force them to change it back, probably at gunpoint.

Honestly, if they went full CGI Anime in a live action world it might have worked. As is, the mostly-but-not quite human approach was weirdly contentious.
