It completely deflated any conflict about staying as well, with the reset thing. I think that annoyed me more than anything else because she essentially gets to have it both ways.

she gets to live for hundreds if not thousands of years in the fantasy world, then when she dies she gets to go back and live her original life from the point it was interrupted. since they've been quite clear that human minds can't really handle living too long, it's not really much of a prize. except everyone in the manga is acting like it is, for no reason, including the people who explained to reene about humans going nuts after a few hundred years.

I'm trying to watch YGo Vrains and I gotta say it was a bold move by the franchise that sold itself by being hyper serious and 100% earnest with how important every card game was and how INTENSE every plot point was to have a protagonist that is as bored being in this show as I am watching it.

Anyway real talk, Yusaku is pretty closed off as guy and doesn't really know how to interact with people due to trauma from being kidnapped and tortured when he was 6. The rival character is definitely the one who carries the show though. He always inspires a whole bunch of memes on twitter when he appears since he pulls out a bunch of dramatic gestures in duels and does poo poo like play terrifying card of legend Mirror Force for eight weeks. And the rival/protagonist pair have the most compelling relationship in the whole franchise. They met as kids immediately before Yusaku got kidnapped by the rival's dad, and he called out to him and ultimately reported the whole torturing thing to the police, so Yusaku thinks of him as his "voice of hope." But the rival immediately regretted what he did since he was literally 8 at the time and his dad got imprisoned by his employer and then forced into a coma, so he's trying to fulfill his father's wishes but also thinks of himself as not a good person. I think of the duel at the end of S1 as one of the best in the franchise because the plays themselves have a fun back and forth, but it's also the direct confrontation of this central relationship in the show. I know a lot of people tend to be down on Vrains, but it's taken over my life and I feel like I should speak on its behalf.
