Alright, a daughter of Glokta and Ardee. That should be fun, and a good way to address the issue of Ardee not having the ability to do much of anything in the first trilogy.

I've read shitloads of fantasy and some westerns so I was well prepped for Joe's first works. I have not really read any Victorian era / Industrial revolution books. Time to hit up some Dicken's I guess

She won’t really have to claw her way there if she was already born at the top though. Hopefully she gets a great arc but Glokta had a much further way to climb.

So I'm taking it as a given that at some point in the new trilogy, Savine and Orso will gently caress.

Don't recall that glokta was snipped. Wouldn't make sense to marry and claim the kid if he had.

I don't immediately see that comment. Glokta has to piss sitting down, established early in book 1. Ardee is at least willing to make out with Glokta, late in book 3, although it's not clear how far that goes.

He might still be able to reproduce but if he only has one kid it’s probably Jezals bastard since they likely wouldn’t abort it

Everyone would probably know if he was snipped so he wouldn't have any explanation as to how he was able to have a kid so no one would believe him if he said Ardee and Jezal's kid was his.

He makes a lot of allusions to not being able to gently caress anymore and one about having to piss sitting down. It was never outright stated but my impression was always the Gurkish had castrated him.

Yeah it's Jezal's. He married Artie just so she could save face. She has no family (in the platonic or the class sense) so he did it as a favor to Collum.

Probably she will turn out fine, is the kid a girl? She's only going to be Jezals kid by blood, but being raised by Glokta and Ardee probably will be competent and ruthless. It's definitely Jezal and Ardees kid though since Glokta never did anything but talk to her until she was pregnant.

ZekeNY posted:That's interesting, though. If she's Jezal's kid, will she be as generally worthless as he is? Or if she's competent and ruthless, is that a tell that she's Glokta's kid? Jezal was mostly worthless because he was spoiled rotten and allowed to get away with everything. He started coming around after his trip with Logen, but ran into Bayaz and got told something along the lines of "Sit down, shut up, sign what we put in front of you. You're useful but not irreplaceable and horrible things can and will happen to you."

And then when he tried to act like he was the king for real, Bayaz told him that he’s a worthless figurehead who’ll do as he’s told, or else, and Jezal decided he’s pretty much fine with that, aside from maybe fiddling around the margins of his orders now and then. That was an entertaining chapter. I remember re-reading it again immediately, and then listening to it a couple times when I bought the audiobook recently. Steven Pacey is a fantastic narrator, btw.
