I found my kendo stick, bitch!

Lipstick Apathy
Ahhh, Vino's... I haven't been there in far too long. I've got enough memories of the place to fill the Arkansas river. Anyone who's ever been anything in the little Arkansas metal sphere (as well as a whole lot of punk, hardcore and even hip-hop) has been through there at some point.

I see Chris Terry on there as the organizer, so I'm guessing he still does the booking when he's not on tour (probably obvious, but he's C.T. from Rwake/Deadbird/etc.)

It's been over seven years since I was there last, but I'm guessing it hasn't changed much. Same with Maxine's over in Hot Springs (which was actually the last place I saw Rwake, back in 2011 just weeks before I moved away.)

Really wish I could go to this one, but travel just isn't an option for me right now, unfortunately.

p.s. gently caress Jason Rapert.

I love the dude from Demilich. He doesn't fuckin' sound human. That's the voice of something vast, ancient, and unknowable. That's the voice of a sentient galaxy that echoes in your mind until your eyes bleed.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I, I took the one to Flavortown, and that has made all the difference.

Speaking of awesome vocalists, I love singers that do that sort of strained screaming a la John Tardy and Chuck Schuldiner. It always sounds more brutal to me than straight up growls. The vocalist for Devil Master has a similar style. I can't get enough of that poo poo.

"strained screaming" makes me think of stuff like La Dispute or Touche Amore, which is also good, though they've definitely got more of a punk sound than metal

This isn't even remotely true. I go there often (both downtown and Schaumburg) and yeah sometimes they play bad generic stuff for the masses but most of their daily playlists are pretty brutal. Maybe it depends on which day of the week you go?
