Kuvo posted:hand painting Hand painting Tamiya white is awful, especially over black. It will take multiple applications. If you have access to a black enamel paint, that would work much better than trying to use x20a over multiple layers of acrylic. If you do, I'd recommend this technique: http://goodguydangunpla.blogspot.com/2013/07/painting-sleeves-detail-on-sinanju.html I'd also caution against using a flat top coat right after using this technique, as enamel under a lacquer or acrylic top coat has a tendency to crack if its not fully cured.

Handpainting with a white acrylic ink will work out better than a regular paint from what I've found.

For London and London-adjacent Goons (in fact anyone in the UK -they do mail order); I was checking Dark Sphere’s preorder page (https://www.darksphere.co.uk/pre.php) and it looks like they’re getting a shitton of MGs, as well as action bases and a scattering of other kits.

FYI these are a fair bit more expensive (10-20% minimum) than just getting the kits from Amazon sellers, and most of them (all of them?) seem to be ordered in from abroad (they all take 8-24 days to get in). At least you don't have the HMRC roulette to deal with, but that can be mitigated by buying from the right sellers. Lemon-Lime fucked around with this message at 16:22 on Mar 12, 2019 |

I'm pretty certain that Re-GZ is this suit from Mobile Suit Variations. As much as I like the suit, it seems like the model is based off the ancient Re-Gz master grade that's close to being two decades old, so I don't have high hopes.

I just tried putting my Japan Post tracking number into Parcelforce and it actually worked, so I'm able to track my HLJ package again. Looks like it took six days to clear customs for some reason and I guess it's on the way to the depot before they'll send me the customs fee. Weird that it took longer to clear customs than it did to ship to the country from the other side of the world. Guess I'll have it by next week at the latest?

Thanks to the goon who recommended the Hi-Nu Ver Ka as a beefy boy, I love it. Couple of questions: 1. the part of the wrist peg inside the the hand sags under the weight of the beam rifle. Aside from doing surgery, anything I can do to alleviate this? 2. never done waterslides. how important is it to topcoat if i'm probably just going to pose it a couple of times and then put it on a shelf to admire without really touching? 3. i've heard a decal softener helps waterslides fully stick to non-flat surfaces. how do the hi-nu funnels do without it?

# ? Mar 14, 2019 05:43 |

I definitely consider softener a must have for the Hi Nu. The good news about the funnel stickers though is that they are thicker.

I'm a filthy Gunpla Casual who doesn't bother with paint or topcoating or anything and just puts the decals straight onto the bare plastic. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out on mine. The little angled panel lines below the decals are still clearly visible, and while there's some tiny imperfections, you have to look really close to see them and they mostly stem from my own inexperience (the hi-nu was my first time doing waterslides). I didn't topcoat either and nothing has fallen off after a year or so (and a car ride), so probably not necessary? It might just be a timeline thing and they'll start flaking off in a couple years or something though, I don't know.

Speaking of the Nu, the MG Nu was my first ever Gunpla that I did when I was like 13 or 14 and it still lives in a very special place in my mother's bric a brac cabinet: I remember being astounded that it had diecast parts for the hips and the legs, probably to prop the Funnels up? It was a very neat birthday present to be certain.
