i'm no longer watching asuka but it has multiple cute mascots and a consistent aesthetic that i think is pretty good (the kinda fuzzy lineart they got going on) smiles mostly just had strong character/clothing design that was dampened by a middling production and uninteresting military uniforms 99% of the time, on top of the meandering story and character writing that didn't accomplish much of anything

Price of smiles managed to pull off an allegory for climate change. Even if the terraforming nanomachines that were being drained by the chrars were total magic, the allegory holds: the nanomachines were originally tapping into an infinite power source (the sun), and the chrars were merely consuming that power at an unsustainable rate and ruining the biosphere. In the same way that fossil fuels are consuming million year old solar power at an unsustaining rate and ruining the biosphere. Is it too optimistic? Sure. But that's better than the status quo, which guarantees a hell of our own devising. And primary solution to the problem is to stop using stored up energy, and start tapping into the same infinite power source as what originally charged up the nanomachines/fossil fuels in the first place.
