4k is cool dont worry about 8k

It's going to be a looong time before 8k is really mainstream. Almost nothing is going to be filmed in 8k, it takes a loving monster network to stream it, there are very few players and little media available for it. And it's all super expensive, and unless you're buying a 150+" tv you're probably not even going to be able to tell.

Broadcast content is still having a hard time hitting 1080p. I’m not at all happy with the few 4K things in Netflix because the bitrate is so low parts of scenes resemble RealVideo from the 90s

I bought it until they mentioned retiring the raise champion golden retrievers. Wanted to punch the screen when Cheney breaks the fourth wall to say "bitch all you want but I did what was necessary to protect you" since it encapsulates the delusion of that era.

Not much is filmed in 4K as it is. Big production Hollywood movies are shot on like 3.6k or something and are upscaled for home release.

These high-end ARRI or Red cameras that do shoot 4K+ possess incredible resolution to allow re-framing shots in the editing room, if needed.

lol every dickhead calling themselves a cinematographer 1 year into film school is shooting 4k these days. Even your phone shoots 4k. It might be getting compressed to 1080p for the final, but "I gotta shoot the highest resolution possible in raw, yes I know this is a 48hr film project and that res is like 5gb/s but I need that flexibility in the image just in case"

Work chat from earlier; I love my job because despite the occasional bullshit I've had to put up with (VPs dicking around with wfh perks, former co-worker who blue falcon'd me, etc) it is incredibly flexible with work life balance and my direct superiors have been nothing but awesome towards me.

For example, I got randomly asked if I wanted to go play test a game by a developer/publisher for a few hours tomorrow and I'll get paid 250 for three hours of my time. Told my boss that I was gonna take a personal day to go do it and the following happens,

"Hey so I'm gonna take a day off next week. I got emailed by the dev of a game you and I both really like and they're gonna pay me to play something for a few hours, so mine as well"

"Oh that's awesome, go for it. BTW your old manager mentioned you put in a lot of work to get them to their midyear stretch goal before you transferred and they wanted to give you a bonus day off. Just record that day as a regular working day. Have fun!"

Also working in a semi academic environment is nice because things are super casual and no one gives a poo poo about me browsing the forums and stuff so long as I get work done and I'm not looking at anything too NSFW. It def. took a fee years to get used to because I was so used to "If you're on the clock and not constantly cleaning or doing something, then you're gonna get chewed out."

And then the followed it up with :mediocre: Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix.

Ugh, X-Men has such great stories to mine but they're all in the weird place between goofy Guardians of the Galaxy space stuff and super serious Dune-esque space stuff.

That and there's a lot of social commentary in the X-Men source material that the studios have just not embraced since X2. Or when they do, it's ham-handed ("Mutant...and Proud!").

And I liked a lot of First Class and Days of Future Past. They're good but flawed films.
