Don't trust the skull.

"On the other hand, Watto is the only representation we Jews get in the Star Wars franchise."

Yes, it's a real shame there isn't a single prominent Jewish actor in any of the Star Wars films. Ah well, I suppose we'll have to settle for a grotesque CGI creation voiced by a Welshman.

Relevant tidbit given the recent discussion about who actually runs the live-action stuff:

https://twitter.com/DEADLINE/status/1140661654738231297

She previously worked at Bad Robot as JJ's assistant and later a producer on Into Darkness, Super 8, and TFA.

Overall, probably a good thing to have some younger blood in charge of the live-action slate.

The "extra stuff" is probably half true. A huge chunk of Force Awakens' marketing was made up of unused shots and deleted-scene footage - but we also know that a decent amount of Rogue One was rewritten/reshot by an uncredited Tony Gilroy. (Luckily, Gilroy did a pretty good job of it.)

Also, as it happens, the recent movie Prospect is an unofficial Star Wars movie about space outlaws that's vastly superior to Solo in every way.

"Prospect" was loving excellent. Too bad you have to keep the subtitles on though. I didn't mind it. It added to the realism.

At the end of the day, nerds are mad that you can't hold a saber up to a trooper and watch them comically fly apart like you could back when video games were less realistic.

That sucks. :( Lobbing off arms, hands and heads is a long time tradition in the movies.

I wonder if that means that we'll never get to see dismemberment on the big screen as well.

Also Luke isn't aiming to lob off parts of a body, he's doing body blows. I always assumed the lasersword just burnt the back together.

Have the video games ever allowed dismemberment out of the box? Don't forget, lopping off limbs in Jedi Knight II was only possible with a mod. Those guys are wrong.

I'm pretty sure you couldn't cut off arms and legs in Force Unleashed, either. And googling finds a bunch of people complaining about it there, too.

This has always been a thing.

It was possible with a console command in the unmodified game, and I believe “minor” dismemberment like cutting off hands was included in the settings menu.

Problem is that it takes a full combo to do so and they're dead long before it gets to the point

Longer shots in action scenes rule. Lots of modern action films look like poo poo because each shot is less than a second long so you can barely get a sense of where the characters are.

I watched Temple of Doom over the weekend and while it has an insane amount of problematic poo poo, the action is shot so well that it's kind of dumbfounding! There are tons of impressively long shots that pan over multiple characters doing different stuff, standing in different parts of enormous sets. You rarely see that kind of action nowadays.

Teek

I can't wait to entertain you.
Pablo is and has always only been just a consultation guy, who then also does some fun continuity porn guide books on the side.

"We're thinking about doing X, Y and Z with the story. See any problems?" Generally they'll say no, since creators have a lot of leeway and the story group will just smooth any problems out after the fact (this is more for the live action people, since it seems like they have a bit more freedom versus books/comics which are a bit easier to wrangle into the confines of continuity). Occasionally they'll offer some alternatives ahead of time to make things more connected. See Saw Gerrera and to a lesser extent, Darth Maul in Solo.

The original Jedi Knight would occasionally have a stormtrooper's arm go flying off when you sabered them. It was really rare, though, and you'd probably only see it a couple times in a full playthrough.

Tintin had some absolutely insane "camerawork" and pretty much shows what younger Spielberg would have done with Indiana Jones if it had been possible. Lincoln had some excellent stuff too, and Bridge of Spies was okay. He just chose not the best source material to work with, with The Post and RPO, although RPO was about as good as you could possibly do with *that* source.
