Kinda weird that they give Goku more a more childish, urban style of talking in the dub, even if it's meant to play up that he's kind of dumb and lacks social niceties, though maybe he picked that up from Bulma. Chi-chi grew up with a super rich dad though, so logically she'd likely talk like a Southern Belle.

Ox King is one of those characters who despite never getting a lot of focus is kinda fascinating, particularly how he apparently had a Power Level of 1000*, which means that for a long time he was one of the strongest people on Earth hypothetically, though it's balanced out by the fact that he apparently could never get a hang of actually using anything that uses Ki Which probably explains the crazy potential of Gohan and Goten almost as much as them having Goku for a dad, they also had very good genes on their mother's side(kinda makes one wonder how high Chi Chi could have gone if she hasn't decided to focus almost completely on being a housewife and mother) *admittedly said source is kinda iffy, but from my recollection it mostly matches up with what we saw in the source material through the early parts of Z

Chi-Chi is lowkey probably the most powerful non-Ki using non-android woman on Earth (there are a few scenes where she breaks almost as much stuff as Goku when she loses her temper), and she did teach Goten how to fight and train him well enough he went Super Saiyan. Starting to make sense why Pan is showing signs of being ridiculously powerful, given her grandpas are Ox King, Mr Satan and Goku. Speaking of stuff lost in translation, Goten apparently calls Vegeta something like 'uncle'.

Well originally in the dub I'm sure they were going for the "Goku is a heroic kung fu Superman" angle. Kai leaned more into the "Goku is kinda stupid" aspect of the series but had to walk that balance of new vs old.

He calls him ojisan, which means “uncle,” but doesn’t explicitly denote a familial relationship and can be used for a close family friend, which is exactly what Vegeta is to the Son family. Not to be confused with ojiisan which would mean grandpa and could obviously make someone upset. Same for obasan and obaasan for “auntie” and “granny.”

She just beats him up until he gets angry enough for it to pop and is actually able to hurt him. Compare that to how Goten treated Videl, where he was always humoring her. Chi-Chi is strong

Mr Satan and Master Roshi might actually get along. And trade porn mags. Remember Videl was taught everything she initially knew by Mr Satan and her fundamentals are solid. Funny thing is Mr Satan is one of the only people besides Bulma and Videl who'll actually stand up to Chi-Chi regarding parenting.

Frankly if Chi-Chi could beat Yamcha in a fight, especially NOW since he's given up being a fighter at all, I wouldn't be shocked. She's nowhere near Krillin or Tien's level but she's definitely got some natural skill and power, probably just by living with Goku, as sporadic as that can be.

While he's stronger than average, it's clear Mr.Satan lucked out and didn't get anyone exceptionally strong in the tournament he won. There are plenty of strong people on Earth who don't bother to take part in the tournament, I'm sure he'd still have problems with many of the human opponents Goku faces in OG Dragon Ball.

Chi-Chi is something of an odd middle ground. I'm surprised that Super made me really like the Androids. Maybe because they're excellent foils to the wackiness and escalating terror of the Tournament of Power, while not being afraid at all. I suppose after all they've been through there's not much that really shakes them anymore, but they're not above playing the villainous part and aren't ashamed of anything.

Is there confirmation that Goten went SSJ directly as a result of that fight with Chichi? I feel like when we see Trunks do it he already knows Goten knows how, so I assumed they hit it together while playing or sparring or something, and Goten just did it defending against Chichi out of reflex. I mean, it doesn't matter really since they could basically disintegrate and nobody would notice but we've got to talk about something in this thread..
