*looking up "Kishi Torajirou" on mangaupdates to see what kind of hosed up poo poo a currently popular yuri author used to draw* oh no it's a story about two adult women hooking up and working through the self esteem issues that lead them to seek out unfulfilling relationships with lovely dudes... he also drew a vampire woman battle shonen thing with lesbian sex i last read when i was 15 so maybe thats actually bad i dont remember

Are you talking about Bloody Mary? I read it because it was Kishi, and he definitely wrote one of the better works of that genre and time period. Great art, and Mariko's a good character. It's still late-90s sexualized violence manga, so nobody should go into it with any illusions.

The Nettaigyo mangaka did some KyouSaya books and one of them ends in an afterword titled A Concluding Report on Kyouko's Butt, Thighs, Thighhighs, and Certain Other Matters. their findings are brave, controversial, possibly true

Otome no Teikoku has been getting so good. It's even been largely sanitized from the previous ecchi-ness so everyone can enjoy it. So many good characters.

What a good time to stumble into the thread. I just binge-read all of Otome no Teikoku over the last few days after a friend told me "it's actually really good, and not just porn". They were right. I'll have to check out Maka-Maka. It looks like it had an actual English release but might be out of print? I can only find super overpriced used copies.

https://twitter.com/hamuro_kei/status/1161975198486167553 Tsurezure Biyori's next chapter will be its last. Going by machine TL so I have to take this with a grain of salt, but it sounds like the author just decided that it wasn't successful enough to be worth the effort of continuing. That's really unfortunate IMO, it had some of the best Iyashkei vibes of any yuri stuff I've been reading lately.

I've been reading Boku no Yasashii Onii-san because the family drama is wild but I hate the way this manga does scene transitions. In the most recent chapter, the older son has gone missing and everyone thinks he's out with a woman; this is a problem because they're having a funeral ceremony for the father that day and he's supposed to be there. The step-brother retraces the older son's steps the previous night uncovering an impersonation scheme the oldest son did plus multiple women he spent time with overnight (this kinda loses some of the comedy in the telling but it was fairly funny in context because it's so ridiculous); they eventually start checking morgues thinking he might be dead. The youngest son looks at his phone like he just got a call, then suddenly the scene is somewhere else??? and the oldest son is tied up, he's been kidnapped, and the youngest son is now outside planning a rescue. Like what the gently caress even happened to get from point A to point B other than maybe a phone call that happened off-screen. I've read some other stuff by this mangaka and I think it is a stylistic choice to some degree because I remember some confusing transitions in Hyakki Yakoushou but nothing this egregious. The manga's paneling is very loose to begin with so it's sometimes hard to follow the action on the page as it is, it's bound more by dialogue bubbles than panel boundaries so things sort of sprawl around the page and it's also quite dense at times like there will be a lot of people talking and several actions happening on a single page and only dialogue clues to help you keep it straight because there might be only minimal background detail to provide any sort of context to the setting. Overall it's a frustrating manga to read and I keep thinking I'm going to drop it but I genuinely like the characters and all the weird fractures and connections this family has made. It's full of divorced parents and blended families with new relatives coming out of the woodwork (now there's a grandma that everyone thought was dead but has suddenly shown up) and I think if it was maybe paced a little better and the artwork was more clear it would be a fun manga about a really complex family but as it is, it's hard to recommend since I'm not sure I'm even going to make it to the end.

I was also confused because Melancholia owns, its one of my favorite things I've ever read, but yeah no Philosophia's ending is stupid. I was really mad when I finished reading Philosophia. Your reward for finally finding love after years of hardship is a tragic accident that was probably suicide! The moral your lover-who-you-never-actually-got-together-with learns from your death is to never move on or try to find love again! She spends the rest of her days regretting what could have been and somehow this is noble of her. Just terrible.

i mean i dunno? i mostly just mean they make less art about suicide now, in referring to the time they made a comic about two lesbians fingering each other and then one of them committing suicide off-screen you can chart out a progression from their art before they started making stuff like girls' last tour and shimeji but all that'll really tell you is that they probably found better ways to cope since the themes of girls' last tour and shimeji are a lot more reassuring than like, the original shimeji simulation picture book they made years earlier The Colonel fucked around with this message at 20:55 on Aug 15, 2019 |
