Turns out shithead Polish builders aren't shitheads because they're Polish, they're shitheads because they're builders. Plenty of those to go around.

It still amazes me that in such a short period of time the word "cuckold" went from obscure antiquated slang to a very common insult used by internet shitheads via a very questionable genre of fetish porn.

Tricked out -> turned into a prostitute

Prostitutes -> covered in cheap, flashy clothing and makeup

That 2005 Corolla -> covered in cheap, flashy accessories

That 2005 Corolla -> tricked out

From there you just generalize it to mean 'customized with aftermarket parts' and then infer that those parts are better than the originals and you have 'tricked out' -> upgraded.

The headline is bad, the article indicates:

But under the new plans, families will be able to build up to two storeys using permitted development rights – the same system used for small extensions and loft conversions.

So it’s more of a change to by-right allowable building heights.

I wouldn't say that's the case just yet. "Permitted development rights" is just the system for pre-approved changes that fit within predefined rules. They've not defined the rules yet and some of the existing ones are really dumb. Some other examples of permitted developments are sheds and decks, it's nothing to do with the height of buildings specifically, and they're all defined individually with rules negotiated with central government.

One thing they tend to do is define the limits relative to the "original house", which is "the house as it was first built or as it stood on 1 July 1948 (if it was built before that date)". So they may well say you can add two floors from the height of the original house, which would limit the scope of it.

Or maybe they won't and it'll be dumb. More likely it'll never happen.

No, it doesn't gain connotations of prostitution until the 1900s. For centuries it just meant "made to look like X" or "made fancy," and now it also means "made fancy." I want to know who read Marlowe or whatever and was like "I will apply this phrase to my car"

It's also for detached houses only, and only blocks of flats to start with.

I'm curious how this will turn out. Currently it's mostly being reported in the right-wing Murdoch papers and they're all regurgitating the same back door press release, so it remains to be seen a) whether the "reform" will actually happen and b) what the rules will be if it does.

The parties are all gearing up for what's looking like an imminent election so there's a whole heap of "hey we're going to do great things for middle England real soon we promise" coming out of the tory party right now. Buttering up the white middle class detached home owners (like me) with indirect suggestion of house price increase sounds exactly like one of those.

There are a whole lot of white middle class Brits who got priced out of the market by the house price increases that have already happened, so that strategy could backfire on them.

When choosing a previously used item, be sure to closely examine the wear and tear under the hood, just because it's a younger model doesn't mean it hasn't been used hard. Be sure to check for loose or sloppy fits on all joints and manifolds, and make sure that after a detailed, in ~depth~ inspection, that you're happy with the condition of your new....

Yeah, I was specifically thinking of the stereotypical UK style 'terraced' housing that you see, which apparently this doesn't apply to anyway.

A hundred and twenty‐four cases is really impressive.

Presumably the tub was transported dry and filled with tap water on‐site. The fair only lasted ten days and the tub was infectious by day six.

I’m obviously no expert on legionella because I would have thought that those conditions wouldn’t be optimal for breeding it.
