New stuff on my radar:

Blind Guardian's orchestral album is up on the big services
Slow, doom
Hideous Divinity have a new one up on the big services, brutal tech death
Ritual Eulogy, metallic hardcore
A 4 way DSBM split between Hellhole, Destined to Suffer, Chagrin and Ruined Mind
Blood of the Wolf, black death
Raptore EP dropped early, NWOBHM throwback
The Outsider, instrumental post-prog metal

And singles from Sodom, Ozzy, Stryper, Sepultura, and Overkill.
A new Have a Nice Life dropped too if you feel like being sad.

Oozing machismo
It's ok, here's some new cool stuff.

https://blackheiron.bandcamp.com/album/kicking-screaming - Basically a band playing some oldschool USPM/Heavy metal 80s style.

https://dismemberment.bandcamp.com/album/arc-of-ancients - black'ish, thrash'ish metal.

https://midnight-ohio.bandcamp.com/ - this is .. I'm not entirely sure what to call it. It was labelled as "black/speed metal". It has some nice guitar work, clean solos. Vocals are of the shouty variety. It is pretty cool though.

https://ieliminate.bandcamp.com/album/i-eliminate - Death metal from Costa Rica. Nice and midpaced. I like it. Except their name. Their name is kinda dumb.

https://dyingvictimsproductions.bandcamp.com/album/aggressive-perfector-havoc-at-the-midnight-hour - UK band channeling Venom, Tank, early Slayer and bands of that ilk. It's cool.

https://galaxyaus.bandcamp.com/album/lost-from-the-start - Australian heavy/speed metal band. Has those high screams. Think 80s US speed metal.

and finally in the "too cool for bandcamp" section a UK heavy/power metal band decided to just put their album on youtube.

I'm always curious why a band on an independent label would not put their stuff on bandcamp. It seems like there's only upsides for everyone involved, especially if you just want to get your music out.

Oh well.

Man, I wish I could be more excited about this album, seeing how I'm an old BG fan and it's something the band has dreamt of for like 20+ years. I mean, "when's the orchestral album coming out?" was a running joke on the official BG forum in the early 2000s. And now it's finally out and it should be a loving momentous occasion, but it's just... kinda... there.

Still, I just listened to it on Spotify and it's certainly not bad. I like that two of the voice actors in the narrative interludes are the same guys they had on NiME. Also in the interlude before the last proper song, they use the same battle noise sample* that NiME opens with, which I thought was a cute little detail.
I feel like having the lyrics on hand, with some liner notes to explain the story a bit, would go a long way to improve the experience.

*: Trivia: The sample in question is ripped from Braveheart.

I liked the orchestral album but it should have just been a regular Blind Guardian album with they symphonic elements ramped up even higher. As it is it's just a fine one and done listen I'll never revisit when it could have been a fantastic power metal album.

A review I read said that it's great but kinda sounds like a novelty bonus CD for the actual album, and I have to admit there's merit to that description.

EDIT on another note:

I was introduced to Midnight in this very thread some years ago when I asked for recommendations for some black'n'roll kinda stuff. I'm glad to hear they haven't really changed, they're really good poo poo.

There's some lyrics on it sung in a way that, even for Blind Guardian, are cringe-inducingly lame. There's a part in Point of No Return, which is otherwise a great track, where he just belts out: "Make sure, there's no more Magic, but blaaAAAaack magic, whoaa whoaaa whoaaa". Just... come on.

I'm probably not going to listen to it again more than once or twice in its entirety, but some tracks are up there in... not top tier, but second tier?

So Quayde LaHüe's debut album is really good. It tacks a little closer to Scorpions and early Priest than to Thin Lizzy compared to their EPs, so it's now 1976 instead of 1974 I guess. They've also learned to supplement their dual guitar leads with really strong riffs. Also most of the lyrics are amazing (preserving the all caps of the lyrics in the metadata):

quote:

[...]

OH I AM WARRIOR
FIGHTING TO BELIEVE IN LOVE
WARRIOR

JUSTICE FRYING
LAWMAN LYING
EVIL CRYING OUT FOR MORE AND MORE

THE CHAINS OF HATE
WILL NEVER BREAK THE CHAIN OF LOVE
OH NO I AM WARRIOR

THERE IS NO DEATH ETERNAL
FOR THOSE WHO FIGHT FOR LOVE
MY FATE WAS HANDED
FROM THE STARS ABOVE
I FIGHT WITH MY HEART ON MY SLEEVE
SO YOU CAN SEE ITS GOT TO BE THIS WAY
I AM THE WARRIOR
WARRIOR

I saw King Diamond for the first time last night, it kicked rear end. He was on for over an hour but the time seemed to fly by so fast, and without an encore it seemed like too short of a set for what that performance deserves. Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats also had an awesome stage presence of their own that I think made everyone in the room a fan if they hadn't been before.

It isn't exactly metal, but I'm loving the Blind Guardian Twilight Orchestra album. The first time I listened it was weird, I knew it was purely orchestral but still for my ear it felt unexpected, how it didn't sound like the 'metal with orchestrations' they used in songs like A Night at the Opera or Wheel of Time. But a few more listening sessions and yeah, I like it a lot.
The secret key is the album is really all about the singer, Hansi Kursch, with the orchestra and chorus as backing for him. And he happens to be one of my favorite singers, so it's all good.
Without those pesky drums and guitars you can enjoy Hansi at maximum level. :P

I’m simultaneously excited and nervous and not quite in the mood for that right now. I’m waiting until I have a strong desire to listen to it and then I’m throwing on my nicest headphones and sinking in. I love Hansi. I just don’t want to listen to it when I’m not 100% craving what it’s delivering.

Repeating that King Diamond was amazing live. Saw him last night in Baltimore and it was a fantastic show. I was surprised, but happy that they included "Voodoo." The stage set-up and performance really sold the experience. Uncle Acid played a great, entrancing show as well. We didn't make it in time for Idle Hands so no comment on them.
