OK OK, Scott Adams sucks all sorts of rear end (and not in the good way), but this part isn't true. Way before his brain broke he described Elbonia as a fictional country designed to resemble what Americans think Third World Countries are like, which in his words was something like "people living in mud without cable TV". The name isn't a knock on Albania, it's supposed to sound like Elbow. Is it funny? No, but there's enough bad things about Scott Adams already that we don't need to make up new ones.

Yeah, but he depicted them that way with absolutely no irony. There wasn't a clever comment being made, it was just appealing directly to the worst base urges of conservative Americans in that particular big brain "ah but you see I'm doing a bigotry deliberately" thing that never once actually came from anywhere but anti-intellectual laziness.

Oh, absolutely. At best it's just being smug and superior about living in the First World, which is some real stinky poo poo. My point was that it wasn't a deliberate attempt to fly slurs against Albanians under the radar.

I don’t want to relitigate the 2016 election yet again, but Clinton did get more votes than Sanders. You can argue about whether the party ran the primary poorly or had their thumb on the scale, but “real voters wanted Sanders and the DNC stole the election for Clinton, so might as well not vote” is propaganda that has been explicitly linked to Russian troll farms. It’s also really racist, as voters of color (especially black) overwhelmingly preferred Clinton.

I thought she just admitted that the Clinton camp was privy to debate questions or some kind of access Sanders did not get. Which is super biased and lovely, but not loving with voting.

Also, only admitted because her predecessor’s preferential treatment was all over leaked emails.

Hillary bought out the bankrupt DNC in exchange for a fundraising agreement that allowed her to take money from state fundraisers and use it for her campaign and for her getting to staff everything with her people (who then worked against Bernie in the primaries). It's the reason that none of the party establishment ran in 2016, she controlled everything and there was no room for anyone, so you just had fringe weirdos like Metric System Guy, Term-Limited Mayor, I Killed A Man in Vietnam, and some socialist who promised people jobs and healthcare.

Voting was hosed with in other ways, for example New York's requirement that you be registered for a party before you even know who is running in the primary, effectively disenfranchising anyone whom an outsider candidate might attract to the party. But that wasn't Hillary's fault, that, like superdelegates, was rigging that the DNC has been doing for decades.

quote:

He described the party as fully under the control of Hillary’s campaign, which seemed to confirm the suspicions of the Bernie camp. The campaign had the DNC on life support, giving it money every month to meet its basic expenses, while the campaign was using the party as a fund-raising clearinghouse. Under FEC law, an individual can contribute a maximum of $2,700 directly to a presidential campaign. But the limits are much higher for contributions to state parties and a party’s national committee.

Individuals who had maxed out their $2,700 contribution limit to the campaign could write an additional check for $353,400 to the Hillary Victory Fund—that figure represented $10,000 to each of the 32 states’ parties who were part of the Victory Fund agreement—$320,000—and $33,400 to the DNC. The money would be deposited in the states first, and transferred to the DNC shortly after that. Money in the battleground states usually stayed in that state, but all the other states funneled that money directly to the DNC, which quickly transferred the money to Brooklyn.

“Wait,” I said. “That victory fund was supposed to be for whoever was the nominee, and the state party races. You’re telling me that Hillary has been controlling it since before she got the nomination?”

Gary said the campaign had to do it or the party would collapse.

“That was the deal that Robby struck with Debbie,” he explained

That was the real rigging, rigging it against someone like Biden who could only receive $2700 checks from individual donors while Hillary could get $353,400 per individual donor. Sanders wasn't the target (he wasn't even considered a threat) but when his campaign unexpectedly took off it was very useful that her staff was in control of the DNC and could work against him, by helping her cheat in the debates, Jewbaiting southern voters, etc.

The funding arrangement with HFA and the victory fund agreement was not illegal, but it sure looked unethical. Fine, okay, I don’t want to argue the fine differences between “it looked unethical” and “it was rigged.” We’ve been having this debate for three years and it never goes anywhere. Things weren’t handled like they should have been, but it far too easily veers into conspiracy theories that don’t help anyone but the GOP.

Those sorts of polls are utterly meaningless. Hillary Clinton has been in the spotlight for 25 years while most people had never heard of Bernie Sanders. If he’d gotten the nomination we would have had months of ads attacking him as a far left socialist who lived in the USSR and had a Soviet flag on his bedroom wall. He might still have won, but he also might have lost even worse. It’s impossible to know for sure.

She did the worst a Democrat could possibly do: she lost every single swing state. No candidate could have possibly done worse than her because the only states she won were solid blue states who would have voted for any Democrat, yet the Democrats still could have won if they had someone who was popular in the Rust Belt or at least not devastatingly unpopular thanks to decades of supporting trade policy that hosed over the region. And it just so happens that there was a candidate with Rust Belt support and a popular record on trade policy running in 2016...

Given that Bernie definitely would have kept the Midwest in the blue column, I'm struggling to think of a state that she won which he would have lost. Virginia I suppose, but even that wouldn't swing the election if he'd held Ohio.
