No looking good friends. Worst case scenario everything shuts down for a few months and noone interacts socially until the infected die off/get better. Then we deal with flare-ups every few months/years until medicos devise a vaccine for a rapidly mutating flu virus. Maybe this will be an impetus to move into more remote work and teleworking. Which would probably devolve into a more contract gig economy and ah gently caress it take me now coronaplague. E: gently caress you I snipe you sick

Yeah, you can sit in your house and subsist on canned food for a few months like a coward Or, you can face up to your responsibility as goons and live up to this forum's historic destiny. Lick doorknobs in public buildings. cough and sneeze without covering your mouth. Instead of washing your hands after you pee, smear them all over the tap, the doorknob, the crank or lever on the paper towel dispenser. Let each goon be a footsoldier in the war against mankind, and let it be a war of extermination. The coronavirus and the something awful forums, marching shoulder to shoulder towards the great and noble goal of human extinction. Forward!

TOOT BOOT posted:I'm skeptical, people were freaking out about Ebola too and it wasn't that bad outside of Africa. This is also like one dude with 3k followers and doesn't have a checkmark. The things about Ebola is that it isn't nearly as contagious as the flu (let alone this coronavirus), and that it's *so* lethal and lethal *so* fast that it tends to burn out hot zones by killing everyone it can touch before they can get out to spread it further, and it's fairly easy to tell when someone is infected, so they can't go ahead and travel internationally without being spotted.

Frankly the prognosis looks fairly good if you actually have access to proper healthcare and disease control So far it's looking like the biggest factor contributing to mortality is being in China

Ebola had a few factors that maximized it’s spread too. Geographically it was really hard to oversee and stop people from moving over the borders in countries: it was just different types of bush and forest in west Africa Infrastructure is bad but that also meant medical teams had a harder time reaching zones with big infection rates. Also people in these afflicted places have no real education and distrust for medical personnel, so they won’t report the sick. All in all Ebola was worse than it could have been, but still fairly good all things considered Wild Horses fucked around with this message at 10:51 on Jan 25, 2020 |

Asia-based goon here. Went out to the museums today. Lots of people wearing masks. Not dead yet. Will try harder tomorrow. Anyway, can someone explain what R0, 1.5, and 2.6 means? (and could you explain it like you would to a child? ) Thanks.

man saying a virus is " a 2.6" is the lamest way to classify these things if you want the average human to take this seriously give it a cool name like "the virus is omega level" or "the virus is dragon class", that sounds dope as gently caress. "This is a 2.6" is for nerds.
