Fartbox posted:But as a grotesquely wealthy and privileged young scandinavian I'm basically safe? Probably but corona viruses can still gently caress you up Sushi The Kid posted:Back in December of 2013 I had a form of the Coronavirus, may have been MERS-CoV. I felt like I just had a cold about the first 5-7 days, then I just really felt bad. I worked for a couple days, came home and hit the bed. On like day 3 of bed rest, I could feel the life leaving me. Told my WIFE "Ok, let's go to the hospital". I was there about 20 minutes, when the doctor said, we don't have the equipment of the staff to treat you here. We have a ambulance standing by, you are going straight to the University hospital. The thing is you don't want to catch it during the peak. I don't know how many ICUs there are in your country but I doubt it's even enough to handle 1% of the population getting infected at once with even 3% - 10% needing ICU and ventilator care. america has 20 ICUs per 100,000 people, if 1% catch it that's 1,000, and its seeming like rates for serious/critical conditions is 10% of cases so still 100-150 people per 20 units, ain't gunna work, people are gunna have to go untreated and die. that's the thing, yeah you'd otherwise be fine getting it right now because they could probably keep you alive if complications do occur, but not when everyone needs it at once. He then gave me this set of epidemiological rules to adhere to in these situations: 1. Don't eat bat or food from where bats poo poo 2. Don't chase chickens 3. Wash your god drat hands. 4. Avoid Countries where food is not eaten with a fork or spoon. 5. Burn the dead.

That meant he was capable of transmitting the virus even though the kind of tests used in airport screening for the virus would not identify him as a carrier.
