The Special Fourth is supposed to be the heavy hitters. If they're all busy protecting Denji, they aren't doing their jobs, and then there's nobody to call in when a Devil is too tough for civilian hunters, but not big enough to need all hands on deck. It's easy to forget with how Denji keeps running into the absolute worst situations, but most Devils are much, much weaker than our main cast. Someone like Kobeni, in more normal situations, is terrifying overkill, not comic relief.

devil hunters aren't respected elites. they are hosed up losers doing a job that only pays well because of the high mortality rate. the pure human characters keep on dying because that's what pure human devil hunters do.

The interesting thing for me is how he's the second member of Makima's motley band who says he was saved by her. If they were both devils, that would be incredibly suspicious, even by Makima standards, but one is Aki, who's the closest to a good person in the cast and fully human on top, which leaves things at regular suspiscious. Really liking how the dynamic has changed with Power, Denji, and Aki. They're still absolutely horrible to each other, but now it's the kind of horrible that comes from getting along with people really well.

Denji was in the middle of laughing, and she herself says she pricked him, which implies she did it lightly. And then of course as everyone else mentioned, poo poo on that level probably doesn't register at all to him given his life experiences.
