there was a death in Japan today - an 80yo woman with a separate medical condition, but no known link to Wuhan or contact with anybody known to be infected for all that's going on in China, most of which is uncertain, this is another sign that this virus is covertly spreading through people and places we are unaware of. hopes of quarantine seem more and more delusional; as many are saying, all that can be done now is buy time to prepare regarding whether the jump in cases yesterday included previously diagnosed cases or was just including new data for yesterday alone, it seems my confusion on that point is shared by others: "It is unclear over which time period the number of cases in the new category were detected. In a press conference in Beijing Thursday afternoon, officials only took questions from state media, and no one asked about the data revisions." (from this Bloomberg news roundup.) I've stocked up on masks and food and other supplies but I just realize that I'll need some entertainment while I'm stuck at home. I can't just simply spend a entire month just binging Netflix and posting on the forums. I'll grab a yoga mat so I can exercise at home but fo y'all have any other suggestions for people who's gonna be self-quarantining?

I will tell you why in the next few days the death and confirmed numbers will be stabilized a bit. They changed the province head and city head at the same time (announced today but likely both have been there working on handover for a few days), the reason to "clear the back stock", "take a one time write off" on all the new patients is that they could blame these numbers to the removed officials and don't pin it on the new guys. At lease one of the new guys is Xi's people. Now the number may spike again in the future, but not for the next few days.

Stock up on food and any other supplies you might need. Not because mad max is coming, but because this might very well cause a significant hiccup in the economy. Its possible stores may have a run on medication in a few months so make sure you have enough now. Prepare for your hours to be cut. Even if the virus is not that big of a deal some companies will have people stay at home if they have any cases. My mom works with the Red Cross in San Diego every now and then. The other day she was conscripted into driving this huge Red Cross truck with supplies in it, things like baby food, diapers, soap, clothes, etc. They went to a store to make sure they had everything that was requested, then drove it to the Naval base in San Diego to be delivered to all the people there in quarantine for the coronavirus. Obviously there are children and babies there. Luckily, she just dropped off the goods in a warehouse, she didn't actually give it to the potentially infected people which is what I thought she meant at first Mithaldu posted:#1 I already know the numbers. Maybe the chances are against it but if they're wrong about him not being infected the virus could be all over the city in a week. That seems pretty risky to just determine that he isn't high risk. You can't contain this stuff outside of something like a hospital. People go out and will get out for multiple reasons and there is nothing you can do to stop them beyond I guess shooting anyone outside? But if they go to a party or shopping before you can stop them there's no way to do anything beyond waiting for it to burn out on population to infect.
