So one parishioner infected 150+ people. I wonder how many of that is directly. Did this one person infect say 5 others and they in turn passed the virus on etc, until 150+ were infected or what?

Much like Canada needs to do, step 1 is either government funded sick leave or legislation forcing employers to provide it. Because the world can die in a plague storm before I go into debt taking time off for no loving pay.

The amount of people who will go bankrupt from medical bills resulting from this is going to be insane. I did some math to see how bad: Some doctors have mentioned they expect 60% of the population to eventually get the virus. The USA has a population of 327 million, 60% would be 196.2 million infected. Of those infected, 13% are serious (or worse) cases that require hospitalization, so 25.5 million who might be looking at bills for advanced life support. That's a lot of potential medical bankruptcies. If you're wondering where in getting the % from, I've been following Dr John Campbell on YouTube, he does daily updates and explains the CDC/WHO statistics. https://www.youtube.com/user/Campbellteaching

Yeah don't worry. Your armed-to-the-teeth Nazi militias will start culling the infected much sooner. Plus I don't think any kind of insurance matters once the medical system collapses and that's probably at around what...5 million infected?

Has anyone else noticed it seems like the WHO (or is it CDC?) is acting more like the World Bank than what they are, an organization for stopping pandemic diseases? Like, since the beginning the they've been downplaying the disease, praising China, resisting calls for stricter methods or better quarantines, etc. It just seems a little weird, like they're more concerned with the possible economic impact than actually putting a stop to coronavirus.

What annoys me the most is coronavirus is exposing all the cracks in the system, showing how hosed everything really is, but isn't enough of a critical juncture force to upset the current hosed up global political-economy system.

stephenthinkpad posted:Can you in theory drive to canada and admit into a hospital there, technically? Theoretically? I suppose if they let you across the border with obvious coronavirus symptoms. And while it would be a lot cheaper, healthcare in Canada for a non-resident is very much not free and I can imagine an ICU stay would still add up to a fair bit of cash. http://www.williamoslerhs.ca/patients-and-families/preparing-for-your-visit-or-stay/billing-and-patient-accounts/hospital-rate-schedule This will give you an idea of the rates for non residents. Long story short it could still end up being over $100k if you need to spend a long time in an ICU. Mr Luxury Yacht fucked around with this message at 00:46 on Feb 22, 2020 |
