I've had half a tank of gas for about a month now and at this rate it will last me through June, easy. Every time I consider filling up I tell myself it's better to pay the extra $15 later than go now and risk getting infected no matter how slight the odds are.

The next generation of kids are extremely hosed. The economy is not going to recover, college is going to be unaffordable if it even still exists by the time they are 18, and climate change will start to really screw things up for billions of people by that point as well. Civilization is on the decline, don't introduce new generations to this world lol.

driving your car around for a bit is actually good for the health of the car and if a cop pulls you over and you tell him you're just driving and not actually interacting with people you'll be fine

Anecdotally I don’t think police are pulling anyone over who isn’t driving like a complete lunatic because they don’t want people coughing at them either.

The car accident thing is more that this is a horrible time to go to a hospital. When my buddy was a kid he smashed his nose in a car wreck and they rebuilt it with parts of his ear and he's fine now. If he did that now he'd be ol' smash nose and look like a Russian boxer for the rest of his life.

The low oil prices are nice. But products are no going to drop in price as a result. However, when oil prices go up, other prices will go up because they are now more expensive to ship. Can't wait to watch this happen again.

The Bing tracker was saying for the past week or so that Canada was getting anywhere from 200-300 more active cases per day than recovered cases, but now we've jumped to 400 or more active per day than recovered. I was hoping we were nearing the peak and cresting it, but I guess people are still not getting the message.

Went to Safeway yesterday morning around opening time. (parking lot packed, tons of olds and people with kids flowing in and out).
Checked again around 10:00am. (fewer olds, but even more kids)
Checked around 5:30. (no olds, not kids, parking lot less than half full).

If you have to go shopping, maybe try right before/at supper time. The sheer number of nearly unsupervised kids going in and out of the grocery stores is madness. I have not been to Walmart in over two weeks, but a friend said that the number of kids running around and touching/coughing on everything is insane, and it's a wonder that just stepping into the place isn't a 100% guarantee of catching it. The second last time I was in Safeway there were olds rubbing their noses, touching 15 different items before settling on one (or nothing at all) and generally making sure they were doing everything possible to catch & transmit. I'm betting before this is all over housing prices in Toronto and Vancouver are going to start dropping to something almost resembling sane.

no. if you get in a car accident you are going to interact with police and, if its a bad accident, medical responders and maybe even go to a hospital. the risk is not of catching the virus from the accident, it's of adding needless strain to an already strained medical system, not to mention that hospitals are also obviously full of virus at the moment and interacting with first responders puts you and them at additional risk

pumping gas just involves touching a lot of surfaces other people touch, its the same kind of risk as grocery shopping

that said, i figure its still a small risk as long as i stay off freeways, stay local, and dont drive like an rear end in a top hat
