yeah, "a bit stiff and could stand a little more editing & proofreading" would be how I'd characterize it. Readable imo but I'm also used to just mentally fixing dialogue to something that makes more sense as I read things so it doesn't slow me down lol

Yeah, that's fair. I've been reading a lot of stuff with really smooth translations lately, so this was just a bit jarring.

The official release of Love Me for Who I Am got an early digital release and is out now. Regarding translating otokonoko, they just left the term as-is with a bit of an explanation, which I think is a great choice.

Edit: Forgot I also meant to mention this is (part of) how they handle Mei's worrying over her pronouns:

The author apparently got mobbed and scrubbed a lot of their stuff from Twitter and pixiv because people were accusing them of fetishisation.

its plenty common for artists to change their presentation as they progress further into a career of serialization but konayama hadn't changed much about their accounts until localization news hit which i thought was eyebrow raising.

in any case, like everyone else in the world, the mangaka wasn't born with some innate knowledge of modern lgbt culture. they grew interested in it and decided to learn more and draw a manga exploring it. accusing them of drawing 'fetish content' previously does nothing to contradict this.

well, here this sort of talk should be preaching to the choir. good localization. tankoubon author notes are always nice.

Speaking of, there's a new chapter out.

'Fetishisation' is a very vague thing for the author to have come under attack for though. I guess I don't really know much about them besides their latest work and from a quick look some touhou doujins I probably read years ago, but they seem ok.

we've historically seen that criminal pedophiles draw things like rurouni kenshin and torako and get the wrist slap if caught, yet twitter mobs try to unperson authors who explore taboo subjects through fiction and art.

also, artists keep this content to their own spaces, to comiket, to pixiv, to nsfw-labeled twitters, et cetera. barging into twitter threads where perhaps confused teens are looking for a story that speaks to them, and screaming about pedophilia is a brutalization of the experience they deserved.

Yeah you can literally see teens brains breaking in real time where they get called pedophilia apologists for engaging with what seems to be literally any lgbt art ever made so they stick to cartoons for 4 year olds and disney movies

Eh, I mean in this case wasn't it like actual porn of a young character who looked young?

I don't feel the need to go on a crusade after people but it's not like it's a groundless accusation.

It's an extremely dumb thing to bring up unprompted in the context of a work they made that has nothing to do with anything else they might have done, especially considering that coincidentally people only seem to bring this up with lgbt type stuff, or works by women. Nobody cares about the black lagoon guy's questionable touhou doujins or whatever.

It's basically just people who are primed to think of lgbt fiction as secret weapons deployed against them by people who hate them. Instead of like, things, made by people

Sono Bisque demonstrates two extremes of cosplay. On the one hand you have an earnest person interested in a hobby and has no biases. Simple curiosity and a desire to improve their craft but not one to participate.

And on the other you have someone who is in it for the excitement and the characters. But also for the tits, however real they might be.

They make a great couple.

Y'all gotta quit making me like these straight romance comics. It's starting to make me think heterosexuality is acceptable, and it scares me.

(Just binged it. Also, I kinda REALLY want to play the fighting game from ch31 now, even if the feature character is just a straight up Ramlethal stand-in.)

I do. I'm an Axl main. But Xrd really moved away from the edgy gore n' pentagrams, notebook doodle aesthetic of the X and XX titles, and i've got a lot of affection and nostalga for that particular flavor of extra garbage. Skullgirls is the closest methadone for that sort of gurowave vibe (and I'm pretty sure the nurse character Vanessa in Sono Bisque is a supposed to be a direct reference to Valentine), but its still super jokey at heart and also tag games make my brain bleed.

I kind of got Thrill Kill vibes from at least the title of the game they are playing and Veronica being a prisoner that I think still fights with the legs and arms bound by shackles. Reminded me of the character Oddball.

i can think of like. one instance of a slavery ln author actually getting impacted by the backlash against their work and it was because it was so absolutely, ridiculously over-the-top flagrantly nationalistic to such an extreme degree, with a main character who literally was a japanese war criminal whose super power was killing chinese people, that once news of its content got out after the anime announcement, the lns got pulled and the anime production melted in less than a week with every single voice actor pulling out of their roles. i've never seen something like that happen before or since

contrast that with how regularly mangaka and artists who just post stuff online are personally impacted by people taking up an obsessive hatred against them for drawing something they didn't like

Endorph

its funny because you have some mangaka or artists who literally openly post anti-lgbt sentiments and nobody gives a poo poo but if someone who clearly has empathy for gay people maybe executes a story arc in a slightly fumbling way or might think astolfo is hot they get 70 billion death threats
