Oh, yeah and that too. I would assume that The Luggage would survive anything given its stubborness. We are talking about the same kind of furniture that goes swimming to catch sharks and jump on them.

On Pterry's 72nd birthday, Narrativia have announced a new production deal for Discworld adaptations. Hopefully this one will go better than The Watch, where it's looking like Rhianna and Rob were shoehorned out.

Does anyone know why there isn't an official Unseen University t-shirt/sweater? That seems like a missed opportunity for lucrative merchandising.

Mikl posted:"That’s a nice song," said young Sam, and Vimes remembered that he was hearing it for the first time. 'As I recall, they used to sing it after battles,' he said. I've seen old men cry when they sing it,' he added. 'Why? It sounds cheerful.' They were remembering who they were not singing it with, thought Vimes. You'll learn. I know you will.

Is there a specific song being referenced with the lilacs? Or just generally any “you had to be there” song that comrades in arms sang at some point.

Old Kentucky Shark posted:Yeah, I would argue that the Watch books are the only cop books you could get away with adapting right now: the Day Watch from Guards, Guards and Men at Arms are the closest equivalent to the cops of today, and they are unambiguously the villains in both books. But the Night Watch are only good because at first they have no power, and later because of Vimes. As soon as Fred Colon gets a sniff of authority he becomes a villain - albeit a very ineffectual one.

Vimes as the idealistic officer who sees how much the Watch are bastards, and Keel as the cop who's learned from that and is... Well, a different sort of bastard. Or there could be things with Thud!, although the very much racial tension in that would need to be very carefully handled.
