First impressions: There's a lot of possibility here, since the performance and visuals are way ahead of what the old FSX/P3d engine was capable of, and it runs substantially smoother than either of those ever did. Basically, this is one drat pretty simulator. The new scenery system is amazing in areas where there's decent photo/satellite coverage to work from, but there's some oddball things like major landmarks (like the Colosseum or Buckingham Palace) being generic office buildings, and some random spikes in terrain, which I assume will eventually get fixed by either the developers or 3rd party users. Whoever designed the control mapping UI needs to be kicked in the genitals, repeatedly. The default mapping makes zero sense (of the three POV hats on my HOTAS setup, one was assigned to trims, the other two did nothing), and the UI for remapping buttons or axis is needlessly complex and generally requires more steps than it really needs to. On the subject of controls, the default sensitivities are too high, but those are at least easy to adjust. The weather system has a lot of potential, but it's currently somewhat broken, with winds aloft missing for large chunks of the world (like all of north america), and surface winds randomly not happening at some airports. The flight modeling seems a lot better than the default stuff in P3d/FSX (we finally have a working mixture simulation!), but I'm not 100% sold on spins. A lot of the aircraft systems are either missing or broken, since the flight directors don't work without the autopilot, piston twins can't feather an engine, and the A320, 787 and 747 all have a lot of bugs that still need squashing. Also, there's essentially zero documentation for anything with the airplanes, so have fun googling! Given that this is the first day it's been out, there's a ton of potential here, but also quite a bit of stuff that needs fixing to get some of the basic functionality working properly. azflyboy fucked around with this message at 06:09 on Aug 19, 2020 |

That sounds like it's off to a way better start than anything since FS2000 or IL-2 1.0.

I thought I feathered a prop on one I flew, but yeah there are a lot of bugs so I believe that stuff isn't working. My copilot suicided the plane full throttle into the ground when I handed it over for a second. Hopefully they keep working on it and release patches often! Also I was hoping they'd have full checklists for all the planes. Also the tutorial missions are really lacking. The ill-fated Microsoft Flight (2012) had great ones and even had fun repeatable generated missions like smuggling where you have to keep it under 1,000 (100?) feet. I'll have to read up tonight on how to do the VNAV part of landing with a GPS. Just pushing the button isn't good enough I guess :P Also is this octagonal shape a removed VOR? https://www.bing.com/maps?osid=03b45bae-fa79-4910-9f99-1c39d1a8bd39&cp=47.45539~-122.477125&lvl=19&style=h&v=2&sV=2&form=S00027

I did a flip in a 737. Game good. Edit: Is there a way to disable the fade to black when you gently caress up? If I shear off the wings of my plane doing something stupid I want to see what happens. Warbird fucked around with this message at 17:19 on Aug 19, 2020 |

Has there been any info posted regarding how the aircraft marketplace will work? We've hosted Automation Game challenges in AI before. It would be fantastic if we could host a similar challenge but for aircraft. I just want to build Crimson Skies planes all day.

My understanding is that developers can sell through the marketplace (which presumably takes a cut of the money), but they can also sell through their own websites/installers, and you can also install stuff into the sim directly.

While there are a ton of things still be be done I'm not worried about it since it is 2020 and everything is a Platform now. They're planning on hanging a ton of new content, challenges, etc. off this thing over the next several years. I'm super excited about what this product is going to be like in 6 to 8 months, but yeah, right now, Auto throttle is broken, the autopilot in many planes hates itself and you, sometimes the Garmin crashes to desktop, etc.

Disrupting FSX chat, but I saw something that I've only seen once before in the 4 years I've been going up the Adirondacks; a plane parked at Marcy Field. Marcy Field; https://www.airnav.com/airport/1I1 I'm enough of a scrub that my butt puckers a bit flying a 172 into a 3,000 foot paved runway, that place looks a bit beyond me.
