If you are such a business animal shouldn't you wanna keep owning your company that does something important and successful? Why the hell would you want to keep going to work if you're rich enough not to?

Dr. Lunchables posted:Tom Clancy has a real weird thing for that. There was almost half a chapter in Rainbow Six dedicated to how cool it is that military guys can sleep anywhere and wake up without alarms. The most amazing thing I've seen is how you can reactivate a drunk, passed out marine simply by barking their last name followed by a command.

Lewis’s “The Horse and His Boy” (I think that was the one?) had a trained soldier who could do this. Just lay down on bedroll, say Memo To Self Wake Up At 5:15 and do it.

That's a drat fine quote For those who don't know, though, the 3/5ths compromise was actually pretty bad and it should have been a 0, since the whole "3/5ths of a person" thing was exclusively whether slaves count as population for the purposes of how many representatives a state gets, so naturally the slave states wanted slaves to count as 1 and the free states wanted them to count as 0. Them counting as "3/5ths of a person" meant that slave states got more representatives than they should have, since the representatives did not actually represent the needs of the slaves at all.

From slavery, to Jim Crow, to immigration, to race mixing, there were a gently caress ton of laws about race. That doesn't get into laws that were basically created to make Slavery 2.0 after the Civil War.
