The rendering of the passenger version had windows. I didn't really read the article though, gotta get ready for a call.

No windows to look out of while I do lines of blow off a hooker's rear end while flying into Aspen? The horror.

I think the fast flying diesel tomb is awesome. Not sure why the couldn't do windows though - I know it needs to be exceptionally slippery for laminar, but I can't help but think they could have the outside completely flush and smooth with the skin if they wanted to. Is it that big of a technical hurdle? slidebite fucked around with this message at 20:29 on Aug 28, 2020 |

The article says it'll have windows in the production model and that they'll be completely flush and not mess with laminar flow.

If they can get a turbocharged v12 diesel to sip gas at turboprop altitudes, it could be a Next Viable Alternative for the King Air. If it can get up in the flight levels, it might pose a threat to the old Cessna Citations still kicking around.

The diesel is probably a lot cheaper to operate than a turboprop even if it limits the performance.

PT6 parts and availability are so plentiful, it’s real dumb to go with a bespoke V12 nobody has heard of. Even if the PT6 burns a little more fuel I’d imagine it’ll more than make up the difference in maintenance costs and dispatchability. Maybe as an option sure but not as the only option.

Aside from the fact that the airplanes will likely have to be kept meticulously clean and free of dents, bugs, or chipped paint, since those all mess with laminar flow, the new engine is probably going to have a fairly low time between replacement interval (since the FAA has yet to allow a diesel engine to just get inspected and overhauled), which makes it lot less competitive with turboprops that just need periodic inspections and can go a very long time before requiring an overhaul or replacement.
