Yeah, the view isn't great, but the in-flight entertainment system is pretty sophisticated.

Yep, and E-3 crew. But we got paid, vs paying for it.

An E-3 is slightly larger than a King Air.

I think the fast flying diesel tomb is awesome. :colbert:

Not sure why the couldn't do windows though - I know it needs to be exceptionally slippery for laminar, but I can't help but think they could have the outside completely flush and smooth with the skin if they wanted to. Is it that big of a technical hurdle?

If that actually goes into production it has have a PT6A in it instead of that diesel... right?

First STC is for PT6, guaranteed.

If they can get a turbocharged v12 diesel to sip gas at turboprop altitudes, it could be a Next Viable Alternative for the King Air. If it can get up in the flight levels, it might pose a threat to the old Cessna Citations still kicking around.

I am stupid
The diesel is probably a lot cheaper to operate than a turboprop even if it limits the performance.

sometimes maybe good

PT6 parts and availability are so plentiful, it’s real dumb to go with a bespoke V12 nobody has heard of. Even if the PT6 burns a little more fuel I’d imagine it’ll more than make up the difference in maintenance costs and dispatchability. Maybe as an option sure but not as the only option.

The windows are all wrong. Needs to be centered on the nose like this.

Aside from the fact that the airplanes will likely have to be kept meticulously clean and free of dents, bugs, or chipped paint, since those all mess with laminar flow, the new engine is probably going to have a fairly low time between replacement interval (since the FAA has yet to allow a diesel engine to just get inspected and overhauled), which makes it lot less competitive with turboprops that just need periodic inspections and can go a very long time before requiring an overhaul or replacement.

A two guys decide they want to fly to the bahamas for the weekend, so they show up at their local South Beach airport and see an "islands air charter" sign. They mosey in, and the gentleman behind the counter says "yes sirs! we can 100% take you to the islands today."
They pay their fares, and the man behind the counter grabs their luggage and walks them out to the tarmac. "Sirs, I am not only the gate manager of this fine airline, I am also the Steward and Chief Pilot. I myself will be flying you to the islands today in this beautiful, vintage, well-maintained Ford Trimotor!"
The lads notice the airplane, and it is indeed ancient, yet lovingly cared for, hand-polished and gleaming in the south Miami sun. Oil pools under the engines: a good sign, as that means oil is in the engines!
The pilot loads their baggage and the dudes climb onboard. The pilot gets the engines started with a bare minimum of protest, and turns around (there is no PA in a trimotor). "It'll take us about an hour to get to the island today. I've got our clearance, and we're #1 to depart!"
With that, they take off; the skies are gorgeous and clear. About a half hour into their flight, as the men are watching the clear blue seas which stretch to the horizon, dotted occasionally by azure atolls and the occassional shark, one engine sputters and fails. The pilot turns around; "sorry, gents, the engines are old and hardly fail; these things happen, though. We've got two more, but we'll be a bit slower. It'll only be about an hour from here. Sorry for your delay."
Half an hour later, the sky is still clear, and the water is still clear, though there are more sharks visible now. A second engine sputters and dies. The pilot turns around, barely having to yell over the third thundering radial. "Ok dudes, second engine died. This is super rare, and we're still OK. We've got a third, but we're slower yet. It'll be another hour until we make landfall. No worries."
Mate turns to his bro and says "Oi, if that third engine goes out, we'll be stuck up here all day!"
