The gate theory is dumb because when Jesus tells the disciples that it's easier for a camel to get through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into heaven, they are so stunned that they ask him how ANYONE could ever get into heaven, let alone the rich. There's no way they'd react like that if the comparison was to something that people in their area did every day, but that was kind of annoying to have to do when you just wanted to get your darn donkey to the stable for the night already.
