You could also glue the valve shut, but if you are exhaling through the filter it will get damp and wear out faster. I like the Honeywell North respirator design because the exhalation valve cover stick out and makes it easy to cover. I used a double sided mounting tape to hold the fabric, then put a rubber band over it for extra security. Easy.

I don't think the smell test is correct for the respirators most people are using, because most types of p100 filter were never intended to stop vapors. Those are tested with bitter or sweet taste or with smoke. If you do have a vapor filter then go nuts I guess, but if you have one that just protects against particulates, that's fine even though you can smell.

Getting a possible false positive has now put me back into March/April panic mode where I’m basically afraid to go anywhere. I’m super grateful if it wasn’t the real thing but now I dread grocery shopping again and haven’t been on a walk in a few weeks. It took me months to trim down that anxiety... Ugh.

EMT husband of my wife's friend is telling everyone that they should NOT get the vaccine because <insert 50 conspiracy theory reasons>. He has his Class F driver's license, a first aid course, a CPR course, and graduated high school. He's explaining to us that he's a medical professional, and "has seen this before". We were on a video call with them and I asked what he's seen before and he trailed off. We're re-evaluating our friendship with them. (I voted sever the instant the call was over).

The US is on the rebound! Not in the good way! You can see from the worldometers graphs of daily cases and daily deaths that the Christmas reporting slump is already getting a course correction, and the deaths especially are getting a sharp rebound. (You can also see a post-holiday reporting slump after Thanksgiving and a smaller one after Labor day.)
