WEP was weird as hell. I started off thinking it'd be like Anthem of the heart, then I thought it's like Otherside Picnic, and now I'm wondering if it's like Persona. Anyway I liked it.

I hadn't heard a thing about Wonder Egg Priority and just watched the first episode purely off the reactions here, and... Wow, I'm all in. The atmosphere is pitch-perfect here, exactly the kind of surreal, dreamlike story I was looking for. By direction, animation, and sound, it really feels like a nightmare. There's so much to dig into I'm kind of at a loss for words. I was particularly impressed by the animation of subtle body language, like eye movements, that conveyed so much. It's only one episode, I've got no idea how this will turn out, but there's a confidence and vision here that gives me high hopes that this could be something special.

Raenir Salazar posted:WIXOSS was interesting because at least in the first season there was this oppressive atmosphere and a promise for a really interesting mystery, and I really liked the fan theory that the main character might have been some form of functional psychopathy so the story was them trying to figure out how to connect to other humans beings but that didn't I think come to anything It's a shame it's buried in a movie that's 80% recap because the new stuff adds a ton to the story. I've been tempted to make an edit of the TV series that inserts the film's new scenes.

Are they animating on the 2's or the 1's in WEP? It's super fluid, like the sort of fluid you pretty much only see in movies with a substantial budget or Kyoto Animation series. The rest of the stuff Cloverworks has been usually good, but nothing Kyoto level before

I am on board for whatever Wonder Egg has in store. Raenir Salazar posted:e: Is Otherside Picnic like a anime adaption of SCP? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roadside_Picnic The guy in ep2 throwing bolts to find the locations of the gravity/fire traps is a direct reference, but the Otherside is basically the Zone with fewer guards. As cool as all the reactions to WEP have been I'm gonna let it simmer a bit more before I check it out myself. Already have like 12 shows this season to watch, not even counting the couple of older shows I'm watching as well.

Raenir Salazar posted:Wonder Egg looks amazing and very what the gently caress. A large part of the SCP mythos is the interaction with the SCP foundation, not just the weird, bizarre, and dangerous anomalies that exist in their universe. Without some sort of foundation analog I really wouldn’t consider most stories to be heavily drawn from the SCP wiki unless they are taking very specific entities from entries and importing them over.

It's hard to tell things about the pacing from one episode. But it was 0.4 seconds before the first *adjusts glasses* and the rest of the episode was dense fantasy politics, drip-fed worldbuilding and ill-fitting comedy bits. Which is what I'm here for, so...
