What is the deal with this? People shitpost here to hate on GRRM all the drat time. Except every once in a while someone gets all precious over it and suddenly I'm a delicate and special sensitivity?

Making fun of GRRM is praxis and we should all do it, maybe just be clear you're not attacking fellow posters. No need for infighting in a thread about a book series that will never be finished, ever

e: ^ Nah, you're right.

I do want to be clear that I wasn't attacking kaworu for posting that as much as attacking GRRM for posting the same bullshit update every year and the media that gives him a platform for it.

The post of mine that got linked is interesting, though, because that's not really a shitpost, is it? I'm responding to two different posters and describing both why GRRM personally rankles me, and why living a life of fame and luxury wouldn't be quite as empty as the quoted post assumes. It's basically the opposite of a shitpost, even if it isn't all sunshine and lollipops.

No, it's tedious. It discourages actually interesting discussion. No one who reads this thread is unaware that the series is delayed, delayed, delayed. Seeing the shitposts causes me to sit back and reflect, what am I doing with my life that I choose to spend a moment of thought processing the sentence "Gurm has been working on Winds of Winter hard lately by farting nonstop for months." What a drat waste!

A saga of novels is meant to be a sort of a unitary creation, part of the conceit that we have to swallow is that this GENIUS AUTHOR didn't only happen to write a bunch of pages but that he has within his mind a bigger work that is all there and it's all driven by a some cohesive artistic impulse, and although this is largely bullshit in most cases but with ASOIAF with the way it was rocketed into popularity by a bad show and how GURM became a huge celebrity fantasy author in the process that even if he does write a book in the series it's never going to be anything like the first novels.

When gurm wrote the first one he had a bunch of evocative scenes, concepts and names he wanted to put on paper, he wasn't obsessed with lineages and continuities and he didn't have to convince the awaiting masses that the idiotic things that happened in the show had nothing to do with him.

Whatever gurm writes now is going to be almost-fanfiction, the man should've locked himself in a cabin 20 years ago and finished this whole thing.

The five books that exist are actually pretty good! An immersive world, memorable characters, surprising twists, mysteries. I like the series and I like seeing other people talk about it. This thread will never be the quality of the Tolkien thread but maybe that should be the inspiration rather than, like, the Trump thread.

We all know that if GRRM releases the book, especially with a "this is how it *really went* in Westeros" gently caress You to HBO, it'd sell 20+ million copies in a week even if it turns out it's 100% in line with the show and just writes out people like Mance.

As much as I like FMA I'm ok with not dwelling on the Nina stuff because holy gently caress is that dark. Plus Hughes scene and it's just a 1-2 punch.
