Rizzunk has been gone for a long time ... I don't think he's posted here in a decade or more.

One of my friends had an accident and now gets blackout drunk really easily. Like, absolutely zero recollection of anything that happens. It's scary how fragile our brains can be.

Different people (?maybe?), but I can attest to Viggen changing substantially after his accident. We wound up FB friends for a good bit, we bought/sold some stuff among each other. There was a big difference after the accident. Enough that he sold his house and moved much closer to family, I think it broke him enough that he wasn't really able to hold down a job anymore. I know for awhile he was supporting himself by buying broken electronics (mostly Kindles and phones) on eBay and repairing them, but he was also at the point where he couldn't even afford to run his AC. In Nevada, where it gets pretty brutally hot.

I mean, he was still a snarky rear end in a top hat before and after, though I could fire it back just as good when it was just us one on one (and one on one it was generally "good natured rear end in a top hat ribbing" instead of "being an rear end in a top hat for no reason"). But that ding on the noggin while doing an endo in a Saab down a mountain definitely changed the guy.

Yeah I found that out through my neurologist. Nothing is certain. Some people will get a bad concussion and fully recover within a few months, and some people like me have lingering issues. 3 months is the magic number, if you haven't improved back to normal by then the chances are less likely as time goes on. Everything is so uncertain, he could never give me a straight answer about anything really, just "likely" or "less likely". Weird poo poo can't be explained, the kind of stuff that happens to me now is hard to convey and can only be explained as over stimulation. Kind of frustrating when the specialist that's supposed to help you just shrugs his shoulders.

I should have gotten a degree in neurology or meteorology, you only have to be right some of the time! :v:

I know it's not a concussion, but I'm still working though my vertigo and my dr has me referred to a Neurologist that specializes in it.

I am still slowly improving, but the curve is definitely flattening which has me concerned. It'll be 2 months end of this week. I sometimes feel like as what others have described to me a concussion is like, just "foggy" at times, not feeling sharp. Still get a little dizzy/disoriented when I move my head, but I am hoping it will go away.

Since my hobby of choice is martial arts, I have a nagging thing in the back of my head that if/when I start to spar again and take a good hit to the noggin, if it's going to gently caress me up.

I guess the flip side, it's pretty impressive how a brain can "re-wire" itself to cope with the hosed up signals your ears are sending out for your balance. No, it's not perfect, but it's pretty amazing that I'm not constantly just laying down unable to move.

I have had something similar since my concussion in 2014. The mood stuff was gone inside of six months, but the ability to hear / understand a single voice when there were other people talking or nearby noise never came back.

This makes me wonder how much of what I've blamed on ADHD is due to some unrecalled head trauma. I've never been diagnosed with a concussion, but given my family's aversion to medicine that's hardly surprising. The latter half is 100% how I would describe one of my major symptoms.

My issues are being able to focus on things, if there's too much going on especially (like in a grocery store) my brain just shuts down and goes blank if i try to focus on any one thing too much. Then my head starts to feel like it's in a vice and my eyes feel like they want to pop out. At that point I have to leave the situation for it to stop. And my information retention is horrible now, anything new is a struggle, however old stuff like getting around the city or changing the oil in my car is still there it's weird.

Hmmm, I always assumed my difficulty with focusing on tasks was adult ADD since a couple of my cousins have it but maybe it's due to concussions. I've had like 5 or 6 concussions from playing sports and one from falling off a 15 ft. ladder. A couple of them caused me to black out too.

Like I can focus but I find I can only do it for short periods of time them I start to feel uncomfortable all over and I have to do something else.

Applebees Appetizer
Jan 23, 2006

It's similar to ADD I guess, my neurologist prescribed me Adderall to try to help with it, but it didn't really seem to help me enough to be taking it all the time.

Maybe if I were working full time having to concentrate in a busy environment it might help more I suppose, but I'm on disability now so there's no point having to depend on any pills at the moment.

I feel for Viggen because after I had my wreck in 2019 (rear ended on the interstate) I was in a terrible mood for about three weeks. Little things would set me off and I'd feel incredibly angry to the point I'd have to go outside in my car to scream about poo poo. It was incredibly weird and out of character for me but started to go away about a month or so after the accident.

The most bizarre part was it felt like being a passenger in my own head; I knew what was happening was not right but at the time those emotions were incredibly powerful and didn't listen to reason.

I really can't imagine what it'd be like to have those effects stick around for years. Brains are weird.

Hope all AI goons current and former stay safe and sane. What happened to Blowdog? From the UK I believe, had a custom license plate on his Porsche, and I think he had a few other fast/expensive fun cars. I'm not nostalgic for the bad old days -- the dasvolk era -- of IRC. I'm sad we -- and I -- didn't do more about it then; when we finally got rid of dasvolk for good, the quality of the IRC went way up, but it was ultimately too late, and the damage was done: the good posters were gone, and all that was left were folks who put up with him and his ilk for too long. Das Volk was an out-and-out nazi (it was years until I understood what his username '1v1r1f' meant), and we should have gotten rid of him long before.

I have to apologize for my role in all of that. The nazi jokes were in terrible taste but were never meant to be taken seriously. Around that time I had just gotten divorced, and I was drinking a lot, which meant I was constantly venting my frustrations. IRC in general was a loving nightmare of drama, jokes that went too far, drug addictions and mental illness. We had one particular user who stalked people online as well as IRL, made fake chat logs, and generally stirred poo poo up for fun. I quit using IRC altogether and felt much better off for it.
