so this was def more setting up marcille taking the dungeonmaster role. whether that is now or later post aftermath of laios taking it now or whatever i am not sure, but long before laios name was even in the running i thought it was going to be her. plus she had the scene with the winged lion already before

Laios (and this feels weird to say) also has more of a mental backstop. He'll still plunge ahead with bad ideas, sure, but people have talked him down in the past. Meanwhile, Marcille is committing a lot of actions that would get her sent to the Canaries if the wrong people heard about them, which suggests a stronger desire.

Oh I didn't realize we had a thread for this, sweet. I finally read through this a couple weeks ago and haven't stopped thinking about it since, what a masterclass this series is. The amount of care put into it is up there with some of my all-time favorites, I adore the artbooks stuff that's been put out so far. Nothing but good poo poo to say. Hurray!

Expect it if we get another chapter titled "Winged Lion" or "Demon" or something (though its first appearance had the title "Winged Lion", so maybe not). On that topic, these last five chapters were titled "Thistle I-V". (So far, unless I missed something there are only 6 chapter titles that aren't either things that weren't eaten by the end of the chapter or series of chapters, or the cooking methods for preparing those things. 5 if you count the hag Izutsumi was cursed with as being "cooked", despite it being made of paper and not actually eaten.)
