that 1927 SF home is 666/SF lol looks like they already did a bit of renovation, namely the walk-in shower and the wall ovens (which do look a bit weird with the rest of the kitchen it its original form)

Exposed ductwork got me thinking... has anyone seen an example of plumbing being used for a secondary purpose, like a railing? You could have a poo poo sewer pipe from an upstairs bog running down the side of the stairs for instance.

Sounds like a bad idea on the face of it, any exposed pipework taking a secondary function will see increased wear as a result of that function (See the finish wearing off well-used handrails). I wouldn't want to be involved or even present for someone stumbling and slamming their whole weight onto a blackwater handrail. But I have seen exposed plumbing as semi-decorative feature. I stayed at an inn that had been built in the frontier days and retrofitted with electricity, HVAC, and plumbing. The drain pipes for the upstairs fixtures ran right down through the corner of the main room, so we'd be lounging in front of the fireplace and hear this whoosh, gurgle, flunch, all the way down. It was a conversation starter.

Bookshelves are just shelves. Bookcases have sides and poo poo. Allegedly. We ended up hiring a guy to build ours.

Hiring a guy here in LV cost $800 + 500 in materials, which was plywood, and 1x3's and 1x2's for the face frame; I agreed to do the finish work of sanding, staining, and sealing myself. Hire a guy but don't do it right now because wood is getting expensiver. The plywood was $43 a 3/4" sheet at a lumber supplier and like $65 at Home Depot; the face frame hardwood was actually the most expensive part at like $4-5 a foot. The extra bonus there is that I'm still in an apartment for the foreseeable future so nothing permanent (or too much of a pain in the rear end to get back out narrow apartment hallways and up/down stairs) is really on the table. Boxes are where it's staying for now. Well aware about wood, otherwise would have just built something "good enough" a long time ago, and unfortunately my skills with metal are somewhere around "none" so can't really compromise with that either. Ah well. Just have to continue hoping nothing ever happens to the boxes whatsoever since I can't replace a lot of it. Keeping an eye out in the mean time...
