yeah as long as they are an actual legit or authorized retailer - I wouldn't trust most poo poo from ebay

Madison Seating has one with similar specs to mine for a very similar price, except I don't think it has a tilt limiter. I got

size C
posture fit SL
hard floor quiet roll
tilt limiter
fully adjustable arms

edit: I saw some wonky stuff on their site, like pages with pictures of descriptions of the wrong item, and so I checked BBB. I might be a little suspicious

This.

That room looks just plain too big for your poo poo, but you didn't need new poo poo yesterday, so don't go rushing out for it.

Definitely figure out what you dislike and actually is uncomfortable to live with and take mental notes on that.

Right now, bring the living room poo poo closer, and put a sofa table (or reasonable facsimile with your current things) behind the couch.

Otherwise, I would say visually separate the room; could be hanging up some ceiling lamps, some assorted furniture made into a intermediate den, or even different more colorful paints; it will allow your floorplan to remain conveniently open, but make the space not seem so vast and wide.

I'm thinking something from the ceiling, if you went the latter route, but then my brain wants to put tables and chairs under lights. Big rear end Fan?

E: yeah I'm just gonna say slide your couch and TV like six ft over and put a little table behind it for keys and drinks, a sofa table would be useful right there by the stairs, if that is an entrance.

Alternative, slide couch over to jaunty angle and put TV on a console more proximal to the right corner, pointed back at most of the room.

Oh there's a recess on the ceiling where your projector is supposed to live, just center your stuff on that.

Well part of it might be just the camera angle, but your diagram says that wall with the media unit is 17'4".

Using the wall that my media unit is in front of, which is about 13 feet, the total width of my media unit, along with the tower speakers on each side is about 7.5 feet. So I think your unit's total footprint should be a bit wider than that if possible.

The couch is roughly 10' wide by 8' at the longest point - the chaise part is about 6' out.

Our replacement stove came in today and the delivery guys said they aren't qualified to remove gas lines so I have a stove just sitting in the spot where the red thing is right now, haha.

okay that's pretty big, and looking your diagram the wall to the right of the sofa, between the blue wall and the chairs is about 15.5'

in that case, I would honestly go huge with a 12x15 rug, and get a media unit / tv stand that's at least 8-9 feet wide. Something like this. Right now your furniture (except the sectional) is too small for the room. You want a rug that will really fill the space and make a statement. Pulling the sectional away from that ugly curtain wall will really help as well.

Eh, you're not wrong, but most often I find it's about partitioning the space in (A) custom ways that work for you and (B) in ways that don't completely close off the space (like a common walled-off space would).

I think wide open spaces where it's just furniture all around the perimeter walls only are worse than walled off floor plans, but I personally tend to like well-organized, well-partitioned open spaces more than walled off floor plans (within reason).

also for the dining area, it looks like the blue area is about 7.5 x 10.25 feet

You may find a 3x6 rectangular table works well here

And if you have ceilings that are a bit higher than average (like 9 or 10 feet), linear suspension lighting could look really good as it follows the orientation and shape of the table

actionjackson you're incredible, thank you.

We are going to be calling in someone to get a quote for blinds very soon. Debating sheer shades or saving a bit of money with larger and nicer looking curtains.

The stand the tv is on definitley temporary too and was something in my wifes room. We used the Lack tv stand at our apartment but that would have been even smaller. The Besta TV setups at Ikea are really good IMO and there's also some great stuff on Wayfair we're looking at.

A good rug will help tie the room together though... we need a bunch though. I think that is next on our list as there's a lot of echo.

yep np, I do love interior design and having some autism helps as well

you may want to post updates in this thread as it's not getting much love

https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3955916

I have no idea what your budget is, but I would avoid wayfair if you can. You almost certainly will want a wool rug, which is the easiest to clean. However a good wool rug in that size is going to be expensive (usually at least 2-3k), so you may just want to find something cheap for now as a placeholder (look up ikea stockholm rugs, they are about 8x11.5). Room and board does have some 10x14 rugs. If you want to do a flatweave that will cut the cost down a decent amount.

I'd think about if you want the rug to really stand out, or blend in. A rug that size defines a room so much, that you want to try to get it first, and then you can repaint or do other adjustments to go with it. You could also consider hiring an interior designer, even for just a few hours. It's been super helpful for me.

We've been debating hiring one just to get some ideas. Checking out rugs of that size though - you're right, really expensive so a little bit of saving needs to be done. I think we need to setup a spending plan cause we also want to get some pedestals for our washer+dryer and those are $300 each.

Sometimes I wonder why we do this to ourselves.

It's mechanical
There's nothing wrong with getting something inexpensive while you mull your options for more permanent furnishings. Good stuff is expensive, and you want to be sure that you both love it and it fits your life well. You can always sell it off later or donate it to a refugee or domestic violence shelter for setting up new households. Having an ambiently loud echo-y living space will stress you out without you being able to put your finger on it.

Putting up soft furnishings like drapes and rugs will help, as well as hanging things on big flat wall spaces to break up the bounce. Extending your drapes out a ways past the edge of your windows is a nice way to eat up some of the room - it lets you keep a good bit of them opened up without closing off the window light. Even a bookcase full of books will break it up some if it isn't uniformly flat across the front.

I recently changed out a potrack for 3 pendant lights over a peninsula and regret it. I originally wanted to update the space with what was a little more in style but it did not outweigh the pure utilitarianism I had previously. The worst part is that it was one of the more expensive fixture updates to the house and required the most work to look good.

You don't have to even match brands and stands.

You can get a stand from other brands to work with a little tweaking, like a plywood sheet on top of the riser, and putting sorbothane pads on the feet of both the riser and washer.

Cheap plywood can be harvested from trashed and thrift store furniture.
