I'm standing behind them, 6' social distancing! and I can see the safety on the husband's is disengaged. It was live and unsecured. They were talking to someone in the checkout in front of them and I could have literally walked up behind them and pulled both weapons before they noticed and started shooting up the place with at least one and all it would have taken me was about 5 seconds.

It's the most insane poo poo ever.

Also, apologies to the thread for derail, but these are my "neighbors", just not online.

When I was in high school in Boise I had a job at Hastings, back when renting VHS tapes was big business. If people didn't have their membership card they could still show photo ID to rent movies. When somebody opts to show you their concealed carry photo ID instead of their driver's license, you know you're in Idaho. I hate that place so much and I'm sorry you're still there.

In Baltimore, where I live, I become irritated if someone parks exactly in front of my house (~13 ft wide). On the other hand, I refuse to park exactly in front of anyone else's house. There's a side street around the corner that I'll park on. When I'm not in the car, I'll admit that this is goofy. Driving makes you stupid.

I remember this happening in Philly where someone thought shoveling the public street meant they owned it. They put a note on a car threatening to break the windows if they ever parked there again. So the owner waited nearby. The person came out and broke their car's windows... on camera. They were thus easily arrested like the total dickhead gently caress they are for it.

You don't own the street. Don't be a douchebag, people.

I take stuff I find on the street constantly. It's legitimate salvage.

Granted, we don't have every dumbass boomer or methheads packing heat here, so there isn't a lot to worry about.

I've got a pile of quality lumber like 4 feet high and 4 feet deep. You leave it on the street? That's my wood now. Wood is expensive.

Wife didn't understand, says, "why are you bringing home all this poo poo?" Then one day says "I need to find some sort of thick plastic for [project]." And I am like "okay, 2 seconds, I have a variety of high grade plexiglass."

Good plexiglass is expensive too. The streets are full of treasure.

Truck drivers. Go back to stories in 2018 about how the tax bill passed in Dec 2017 screwed them out of a bunch of deductions, to the point that some of them said they might quit. Then, when lockdowns started and demand for gas fell, a lot of them got furloughed or laid off. Now, as things start picking up, there’s not enough truck drivers trained to haul volatile fuel, and they take a relatively long time to train. Also, with the worker shortage, a lot of potential drivers are finding easier, better paying work elsewhere.

CNN started having stories about the looming fuel truck driver shortage back in April, saying it’d really hit in July, and now it’s July.

He's blaming it as a socialist government purposefully choosing a policy designed to limit our choice in gasoline to one kind (and apparently only available from one place, despite being told he can go to another gas station) as opposed to the government doing the minimum it could to help people stay fed and housed during a pandemic.

Nextdoor dipshit was saying that, but a poster in this thread questioned what it had to do with any sort of labor shortage indepdently of it not having anything to do with a socialism.

The shortage of drivers for gasoline tanker trucks is real. I have a new neighbor, planned to retire and work on his homestead. His previous employer begged him to come back to drive the trucks. They tripled his pay, and pay the rent on an apartment near the depot so he has a place to stay, as its a four hour drive from where he lives now. And he works 4 days a week instead of 5 now. He's got the proper license and certifications to run those trucks, and the company literally cannot find anyone else to help fill out their crew.

He wants to be retired but, "the money is so good I can't resist". He's making low 6 figures with a free apartment.

Human trafficking has become a new bogeyman in right-wing circles. Well, new in the sense that the current manifestation is new. Moral panics and mass delusions that "ethnics" were stealing white babies stretch back for centuries. The GOP/Qanon crazies often have it linked to their Satanic democratic lizard Jewish space laser cabal stuff, too.
