Recreating cannae is extremely popular, in fiction and (attempted) in real life.

It's kind of high and ... small?, when I think Min is always described as "low and throaty." Yeah exactly, the audiobooks are what triggered this suspicion. She baby talks to rand

This might come as a surprise, but after reading some of Sanderson books, he doesn’t know how to write women.

Johnny Joestar posted:i think in the majority of cases that should be implied when it comes to books of this sort You need more epic fantasy written by women in your life! I like recommending Michelle West, but Ursula K Leguin is a classic, as is Barbara Hambly, while for YA there is the prolific Tamara pierce. Modern authors such as nk Jemisin, rf kuang, and Samantha Shannon are all there too. Most of these are even going to be available from your local library if you want to try them out instead of taking this goons word for it. Anyways, Sanderson is workmanlike and I want more from my authors so I haven’t bothered with his oeuvre beyond the early stuff of his then DNF/bailing on his WOR stuff. He did the best I’d reasonably expect in finishing WoT, but it simply isn’t on par with the early Jordan books to me. Then again, EotW and TGH are quite the high bar. for the record i was mainly applying that to how men tend to make up the majority of the market and they generally don't have the most stellar track record in that area. i've always loved leguin's stuff. i've also read some good sherri s. tepper scifi, but my one criticism is that she tends to beat you over the head with her metaphors sometimes. any and all recommendations are always welcome, though. overall sanderson isn't like the worst out there by any metric re: women, but he definitely has kind of that fumbling approach that many guys do where sometimes it feels like they don't know how they want to characterize someone, and i think that lead to some mild disconnects in wheel of time.

quote:Age of Legends will be set several millennia before the time of the books and in a futuristic utopia powered by a magical force shared by men and women known as the One Power. When an unspeakable evil is unleashed upon the world and men using the One Power become insane and destroy much of the planet, a small band of women unite under the White Tower and are humanity’s last hope of survival. Could be interesting if it's well written At first I thought it was going to be 3 movies based on the books and thought it was silly that Hollywood can stretch 1 book into 3 movies, and squish 14 books onto 3 movies - but yea obviously this is different 🙃

My guess is that the TV rights are separate from the film rights and Amazon and Jordan's widow figured attempting a film series was pointless and so whatever deal they had to strike to get the rights to make the series didn't get the film rights back. Now that the TV series is about to be a thing, they're trying to cash in again.

Yeah Selvage and Mondragon are the members of the new Wheel of Time production holding company that superseded Red Eagle that are pushing this thing. (They're also named as producers on the show, but that was 100% just to get the rights to make a show based on the books shifted back) The director on Winter Dragon tweeted that he'd been up for days finishing the edit on the thing and died in a car wreck about a week later, I'm good with blaming his death on Red Eagle.

They really should have made a TV series out of Jordan's american revolution book. It would have made for a great prestige drama around 2015.

Optimally we'll get 15 minutes of one of the forgettable Hemsworth bros as Charn from Rand's Rhuidean flashbacks with some really lovely 90s quality CGI of the Sharom exploding.

I think their exit strategy on this is to wait for the show to be a hit, and try to sell this to Sony or Amazon.

Just a guess, maybe the trailer will drop once they've hashed out the exact dates beyond "November 2021". And I mean July is already almost over; November isn't that far away so they're probably close to finishing that sort of stuff by now and start the media hype train of announcing announcements

i've mostly just assumed that they wanted to wait until it was closer to the release of the show to air a dedicated trailer, i guess? like i feel it would have more impact if it's about 2-3 weeks before the premiere instead of just airing it like 4-5 months ahead of time and having a bunch of people forget. of course all the wheel of time people are going to clamor for any scrap they can get, but studio people are probably more concerned with grabbing those who don't know about it that much beforehand. already existing fans are well aware of it by now and don't exactly need some hype trailer to keep their interest and get them to keep it fresh in their minds for a theoretically imminent release. the moment they put out an actual, no-poo poo trailer video it's going to get passed around pretty quickly like most trailers do these days, so i can imagine they want to maximize the effect it has by being able to tack on some poo poo like 'tune in with prime video in 2 weeks!' or whatever.

I reckon we'd have had a trailer a lot earlier, but the production of the show got loving wrecked by the 'rona. I'd wager the post production crew is scrambling hard to get this thing chopped and screwed together in time for November, and the relative lack of promotional material is a result of that. Shooting got shut down, what, twice? Three times? That's got to be a mess to edit together.
