the thing that gets me about the anti mask stuff is it's all over a bunch of year old ill fitting pieces of cloth that aren't going to do poo poo against delta after all other NPIs have been abandoned

Mr. Nice! posted:poo poo sucks, and there's definitely plenty to worry about. most goons are not in the category of 'people dying from breakthroughs infections.' that was the only thing I was trying to say today. Also I didn't think you were being sarcastic and I wasn't either. I meant it, I'm the sort that will tell everyone else all the ways things are likely to go right and internalize all the ways things can go wrong. So I really meant it's nice to hear another voice reinforcing the the things that are likely to go right.

I'm amazed that when my workplace reinstituted it's half-assed mask policy, everyone just pulled out the single cloth mask we got issued last fall from their desk drawers It literally is all clearly dirty cloth masks at the office, because no one has figured out how to wash them.

My wife and most of my family still do even though I have offered everyone KF94s and KN95s. My mom and my stepmom both took me up on the KF94s and my father in law at least wears a surgical mask but everyone else is still in cloth and nothing I say or do seems to be able to change that because they all know people that got exposed while wearing a cloth mask and didn't get COVID so therefore a cloth mask is all anyone could ever need!

I went to Costco last night to do a final stock-up before poo poo gets really dire and cold weather sets in and you wouldn't know anything was wrong. Piles of non-masked folks, full parking lots at the restaurants, people shopping without a care in the world. And this is one of the better areas for pandemic hygiene and vaccination. Once someone in a national position of power acknowledges that we're heading into a raft of poo poo the panic is going to set in and it's not going to be pretty.

i would like to note that my dad got sick with covid in late september last year, spent almost two weeks at home before we could get him to go to the hospital, and then over two months in the hospital with most of that in the icu and 15 days on a vent. he was discharged on his 61st birthday in december of last year. he is just as hosed up as he was then today. he's had some minor improvements with his left arm following some surgery to relieve pressure on some nerves, but is still very much hosed up. it's been almost a year since he first got sick. this also drove him to bankruptcy, but now that all his boomer debt is discharged (save the mortgage and step-mom's car), they can afford their bills even on his limited work schedule.
